    Colt Gold Cup CnR??

    This may have been answered in another thread, but I couldn't find it. If someone could point me to the right answer.
    Colt "Gold Cup" national match Manufactured in 1984 a CnR?

    The reason I ask is the Colt National Match all S/N are on the CnR list:

    The "Gold Cup" was introduced in 1957 ( I think)

    To be recognized as C&R items, 478.11 specifies that firearms must fall within one of the following categories:

    Firearms which were manufactured at least 50 years prior to the current date, but not including replicas of such firearms;
    Firearms which are certified by the curator of a municipal, State, or Federal museum which exhibits firearms to be curios or relics of museum interest; and
    Any other firearms which derive a substantial part of their monetary value from the fact that they are novel, rare, bizarre, or because of their association with some historical figure, period, or event.

    So, I go off the list or the age. I recently spoke to an online seller who stated that it is a CnR because it says National Match. Seems to be a grey area, but I want to DROS this correctly.

    Technically it is. DOJ will say otherwise.

      I think there was a thread a year or so ago about a local shop being told to cancel the DROS on a modern Gold Cup NM. I also talked to the ATF Agent, not our auditor about it. I know he was actively involved in the conversation on whether or not a modern NM was indeed C&R. He was the one who told us they were, that's when we started treating them as C&R. After the DOJ incident with the other shop I talked to him again and he said no more. Nothing in writing though. So we stopped treating them as C&R about a year ago.

          If you stand your ground with them they will not make you cancel them. I went through this on one of my audits and prevailed. Nothing in writing just no violations for it and they did not make me cancel the one we had pending DROS.

            Update:

            So ATF responded and said that the Gold Cup National Match can only be considered CnR if the age allows it or has historical value. But, they do not really seem to care as its a pistol and CA only has issue with it. CA Doj responded with that it must state exactly as it is written. Gold Cup National Match is not considered a CnR unless the age makes it so. They are aware of dealers listing the gold cups as just national match, so it may depend on the auditor.

              Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

                I don't treat the new ones as C&R. The old C&R is Colt's "National Match", not the current "Gold Cup National Match". I avoid gray areas, your mileage may vary though.

                  No need for a firearm to have a DOB >50 years old to be classed as a C&R.

                    ^ Yes, but categories 2 and 3 are only gates that allow the ATF to add the gun to the curio list. Only the ATF can decide that the gun qualifies for categories 2 and 3. Once they add it to the curio list then licensees can treat it as a C&R (curio).
