Absolutely a "career limiting move." When I retired from an agency a while back (I don't remember if it was a law or a internal policy) any inquiry into a serial number or "guns belonging to" had to be crossed referenced to a case file number. As I recall, the penalties were severe enough that no one dared violate the law/policy.

Wait a minute. The 30 day rule only applies to a consignment gun or a gun the FFL has bought to put into his inventory. The situation you describe is different.

If you are buying from a private party on Calguns, the 30 days doesn't apply.

If the gun is on-roster, the seller can ship it to your FFL who then does the transfer. Seller gets paid immediately by you. You have a 10-day wait after you start the DROS before you can pick up the gun. If its off-roster you'd have to do it face to face as a Private Party Transfer. Again, no 30 day wait and the seller gets paid immediately. You'd have to meet the seller at a FFL.

The PPT is the cheaper way to go. PPTs are $47.19 by law. If you do it by mail, you have to pay shipping and your FFL can charge whatever they want.

There is always a risk that a privately sold firearm is stolen. That will typically show up during the DROS. But the risk is pretty low if the seller is willing to deliver the gain to a FFL for transfer.

2 wee buy fr consign we wait 30 days assuming we buy right after the seller drop it for consign
I think the question I should ask are
1 whats the reason for the store to run background chx on my gun when I left it for consign
2 why are we the buyer do not run background chx on a gun that is ppt

thanks everyone taking your time to answer my question. I don't think buying a used gun is a good idea. waiting 30 days is too long for the seller. I would ha e to kiss my xdm good bye. again thank you for all of your time and effort.
