I know there is a law where you can only file for one DROS per month in California, but what if i buy the guns in different cities within Los Angeles County. I want to buy one in Glendora, Whittier, Norwalk. Would this work?

One handgun in 30 days.
Currently no limit on long guns. Not sure about LA countyIf you never leave your first childhood, they'll never know when you've entered your second. -
Are these all retail or private party transactions?
It makes a huge difference.Comment

^ This.
But if you're serious, my understanding is 1 handgun per 30 days and the only exception is if it is a PPT. Doesn't matter what city or county.
If you are strictly talking private party transfer (PPT), I think there is no limit on handguns.
Long guns I believe are still unlimited, but I know CA was looking to pass a law to change that.Comment

Where you buy does not matter (excluding LA City). What you buy and who you are buying it from is what matters. Your understanding of 'one DROS per month' is flawed.Comment

Already law.
It becomes effective July 1, 2021 unless a court gets involved.
Gets better. The new law says, "one handgun or long gun in 30 days"...
The way I read this is you can have a candy bar or bubble gum, but not both.Comment

Yes, PC 27535. (There are TWO versions of that right now at http://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/fa...r=4.&article=1.)
But it's one semiautomatic centerfire long gun or one handgun per 30 days, as of July 21.
And, PPT are still exempt, except for transfers inside the City of LA.ARCHIVED Calguns Foundation Wiki here: http://web.archive.org/web/201908310...itle=Main_Page
Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!Comment

Thanks for the all the information, I think I understand the law now. As long as I buy 1 brand new gun a month I'm good and used guns (private party) is exempt.Comment

But Dealers do sell used guns subject to 1/30 and private parties do sell brand new guns not subject to 1/30. New or used does not matter - only who you are buying from. I know it may be handy to think in terms of dealer=new and private party=used but that is not always the case and that method of understanding can lead to other problems.Last edited by SkyHawk; 10-23-2020, 8:28 PM.Comment

I understand, but in the sense of "brand new" gun would be one with no previous owner. So if it is a private party then it is considered used right ? Even though it has never been fired. So i guess the question is, Is it possible for a private party transfer to be subject to the 1/30 ? If so, then under what circumstances can a private party transfer be subject to the 1/30 rule? But Dealers do sell used guns subject to 1/30 and private parties do sell brand new guns not subject to 1/30. 1 in 30 never applies to PPT except in cities and counties that have their own ordinances.
New or used have no bearing.Comment
