    Expired DL

    Hey all...

My CA DL expired mid March so I went to renew it and get the Real ID at the same time.

It never showed up so a few months ago I called DMV.. THey said it was mailed but not returned.

Long story short is that I have kept calling and getting nowhere. THey cannot get a new one to me for some reason.

Would a current passport stating I live in CA be valid ID?
I'm trying to sell a rifle and I know an expired DL will not be valid.

    Thanks!!!

They can print you a new one but probably won’t take responsibility for non delivery and charge you again
If you never leave your first childhood, they'll never know when you've entered your second.

Thay have transfered me to the Issuance Dept many times and it has a recording stating they are busy and hangs up. I have gotten nowhere that last few months.

I can't make an appointment and when I show up in person, they turn me away every time.

The DOJ sent another bulletin out yesterday regarding their position on expired license. If I recall correctly they’ve extended license expiring in March of 2020 (and other months) for 1 year. Someone else may be able to post the bulletin if not I’ll take a look tomorrow. You may be ok, just need to confirm with the ffl that they will honor it.

We just finished an ATF audit and brought this subject up. The auditor said print the DOJ bulletin out and attach it to the 4473, that’s what we are doing.

You might try going to another DMV office.

When you log into DES it is under bulletins.

i know it sucks but you might want to just make another appointment.....it was a bit of a pain in the you know where but not horrible. Once you finally make it inside the DMV the people are pretty nice to work with...Outside, i won't comment.

We called in by phone, got a computer message that had us input our phone number and someone from DMV called us back an hour later. we were able to make an appointment.

Just make sure you have all your stuff with you or trust me, they'll turn you away. They'll ask you for a confirmation number and despite all the other stuff we brought along i neglected that critical aspect of the transaction. If you don't have that you're screwed.

....thankfully when we applied for the New ID we were given a registration or confirmation code along with our appointment time, date and location. We were outside standing in line in the heat thinking we would have to do this all over again when it finally hit us that we could access the confirmatory email on our cell phone so we were back in business. Probably younger people would have figured that out quicker but for me for some reason a phone is just a phone. my bad.

We brought a bunch of items with us just in case, car registration, social security card, passport and some utility bills or bank statements if i recall. They didn't need all of them but we weren't going to take any chances.

Got it all done in 1.5 hours, paid by credit card for a little extra fee ( i think they'll also take checks).
