Am I correct in seeing that the SD police charges $1665 just for the gun sales permit?? You'd have to do 160+ PPTs *just* to pay for that damn annual permit.

Yes, that is correct. Keep in mind, that is only within the City of San Diego, not the whole county.

If your time is worth something and you have to pay rent and utilities, quadruple that number of PPTs -- and you'll still lose money.

Thanks for confirming guys. SD really doesn't want small home based dealers it seems. Yes I would do more than PPTs but at the end of the day this would be a side hobby gig so I would not be dedicating 100% of my time or effort to it. Keeping costs low would be essential. Sounds like the barrier of entry is just to high to flip a profit on this as a part time gig.

How do they justify that fee? What’s it for? Do they charge the barber or any other business for that fee?

And that's just the cost to the city of San Diego. Don't forget that there are many other fees that need to be paid to the state of California.

It's all of these fees that makes doing business as a gun dealer in the state of California so hard.

I find it interesting that per the SDPD web page on firearms dealer ($1,606 per year), "New applications may be submitted in person at the Office of the City Treasurer"
while the same SFPD reg page for an Outcall Nude Entertainer($1,428 per year) says, "ALL NEW APPLICATIONS MUST BE SUBMITTED IN PERSON TO THE OFFICE OF THE CITY TREASURER"
Caps and bolding are exactly as they are on the SDPD web pages.
Why does a nude entertainer have to appear in person but a firearms dealer can mail it in? I guess it is better to see a nude entertainer at the Treasures Office than an armed firearms dealer.

PS: YES, THE CITY HATES GUNSHOPs and varies the tax rate based on their biases.
