I paid almost 60. DROSS & PPT was the 47.19 plus a 9.95 lock. Said I had a safe told me not good enough because they were within 1000' of a school. I figure BS so I won't be using Alamo Pawn again. Turners down the street doesn't do the school lock BS and they are closer to a school.Comment

I would gladly pay $15 extra than normal to not wait in a 2-3 hour line. Gotta pay to play.Comment

But Turner's does charge more than $47.19
$37.19 Dros fee
$10.00 PPT fee
Plus Turner's bull crap fee
For a total of more than $37.19

If it's a true PPT (buyer and seller face to face), the fees are set by the state, and there is no sales tax to be collected.
1.) DROS: $37.19
2.) PPT: $10.00
If this was a transfer from another individual or FFL, and was not a PPT then the dealer can charge a fee for handling the transaction, and tax must be collected on the purchase price.Comment

Was 100% a PPT. Went to the shop with my friend who was the seller. Was charged $60 for the PPT. $5.00 for a lock even though we had a lock, and 10% tax collected on top of that. So I paid 71.50 in total for the PPT.If it's a true PPT (buyer and seller face to face), the fees are set by the state, and there is no sales tax to be collected.

Well, the lock doesn't count since it's the sale of an accessory.
If you have a receipt that shows that they charged you more than $37.19 (DROS) + $10 (Dealer Fee) then they broke that law and you can report them to the CADOJ.Comment

Sorry, but this isn't accurate.
Sales from private parties within CA which is an occasional sale and not from a business isn't subject to sales tax as long as it is documented. Sales from private parties from out of state for a C&R firearm which is an occasional sale and not from is business isn't subject to sales tax if the buyer has a C&R FFL.
A CA PPT can be subject to sales tax if the dealer finds the buyer/seller or gets involved in the price of the firearm.
Documented valid gifts, even from out of state, isn't subject to sales tax.Kemasa.
