    DROS problem

We have customer who is nonimmigrant alien and has all his documents in order. The question is about his I-94 # that has the letter "A" in the number sequence. The DROS entry system will not take the letter, so we called the DOJ and they told us the system won't take the letter. Has anyone else ran into this? We called our field rep numerous times with no answer or call back.

DOJ provided the wrong Info. Call again and get a different staff member, you'll probably get the correct answer.

Swap the "A" with a zero, good to go.

Edit- this is only the proper path if the "A" is at the beginning.

Here is an example of his I-94 #. This is the same sequence but different numbers 012345679A2 the "A" at the end is the letter in question and not letting me proceed on the DROS.

Does this mean our customer is "SOL" because the DES system doesn't support the alphanumeric entry!?

              It might.

It's possible that the input validation rejects alpha because the data is stored as an integer type, not a character type.

If that were the case, every record in the database that has that field would have to be converted for the new data type. Every screen that uses it would need modification. Every report that uses it would need modification.

If they feel like doing it, I'd expect several months before it was rolled out.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

You are SOL. I had the exact same problem and DOJ said they are aware of it and working on it but that was 2 months ago.

I had the same problem today. The change went into effect May of 2019 and they still don’t have a solution.

Weird. I was told to replace the A with a 0 (don't remember who told me) and all the ones I've done that with have passed. You'd think if it mattered the DOJ would have denied it as non-matching, but it has worked. Perhaps I also mis-understood when to replace the A with a 0. The pattern I've done it with is the same as OP has (2nd to last char). I believe I've had it go through 2-3 times now with no issue other than DES people confirming hunting license.

I'm saying I've replaced the 2nd to the last char A with a 0 and it has gone through the CA DOJ background check. I think when I was told it was ok for the prefix A that I assumed it was good for other "A"s in the # and since it worked I kept doing it.
