Being formerly from California and directly in the Sacramento Area, I have had the "pleasure" of selling many DOJ employees firearms. With each sale comes a friendly discussion of the goings on at the DOJ. In a particular instance, I was having trouble with DES and its many issues. I asked the guy I was helping why it was such a problem with the DOJ. In particular (at the time) why would the DOJ rollout a software program that had so many defects in it and then fixes it only after complaints were made instead of testing the program first with a few dealers to ensure that it worked? Why wasn't it user (dealer) friendly? Etc, Etc, The answer I received was that one guy was in charge of the software for the DES/FCS system. He was responsible for its design and any issues that came out of it. A side note: That system is really just a fancy way of populating an excel spreadsheet, assigning a number, collecting fees and then initiating other internal background check programs for the DOJ. This particular individual didn't listen very well, take constructive criticisms about "his" software nor take direction very well. So essentially it was his way or not at all. So, with this type of individual in charge of BOF Systems that we desperately need to work properly, no wonder we have so many problems with it. The inside scuttlebutt there is that he's longtimer with poor working skills (he sleeps at his desk a lot) I know its second-hand info, but I do believe my customers on this one. The DOJ sees us as something other than a partner. . .thats for sure. Frankly, most of the folks that work there are as nice as they are allowed to be by their evil political masters. . . . . . . I feel sorry for most of them

Wouldn't it be nice if DES had more intuitive fields to work with, drop down menus with brains, multiple firearm processing from the same page, a field correction window, A DROS cancellation timeframe that does penalize us with a fee (remember our Verizon partners, they were very accommodating). The list is a mile long with things that if they only listened to us, their system and our livelihoods would work so much better.

Clearly that particular piece of code was written by the same person that did the serial number entry for the DROS.
