Quite true, but it is made even worse when the customer has the firearm shipped in for transfer and the total cost with the transfer fee and shipping is higher than it would have been if they bought it.

Then do you think that you should show some courtesy in trying to learn all of the rules yourself? Do you think that customers need to be responsible as well?

True, but it is often deserved.

Have you tried to educate people? I have. Typically they don't listen, claim that you are wrong for unknown reasons, and refuse to explain anything. Others listen to their claims and it gets even worse.

It is nice that the CA DOJ finally has the dates on the DROS, as should have always been there. I wrote a simple program to calculate the date for the pickup. It did not work with time changes though.

Let me ask you this, why did you not take the time to learn what the waiting period was?

If a FFL assumes that every customer doesn't know and tries to explain, then the customer who know will get upset. If they don't explain, then customers get upset. If they ask if the customer knows, typically the customer won't admit that they don't know or that they think that they know, but they really don't. Again, why don't you think that the customer should be responsible? If they don't know, they should ask.

The law required it. Why was it not your responsibility to know? I keep pointing this out since you keep blaming others, instead of yourself.

      Why didn't you call first?

That is a bit of a problem since the FFL needs the signature on the DROS or a worksheet.

In this case, yes, the FFL should have made it clear as to what was going on.

There isn't enough time in the day to explain everything to every customer. You need to take responsibility of learning the rules and regulations yourself unless you want to pay the FFL by the hour to educate you.

It is can be a long and complicated process because of ALL of the possible issues. The simple fact is that CA does not accept a CA ID/DL for proof of residency for handguns. If your CA ID/DL does not have your current residence address on it, then Federal laws also come into play.

Do you know how often I hear the false claim of secondary proof of residency? There is NO secondary proof of residency, but the false information spreads faster and farther than reality.

Both sides need to communicate, not just one. Customers need to be responsible as well.

There isn't a big enough wall and even if you did, many would not read it or understand it.

I doubt it. You just have to deal with it.

Depending on the age you may also be seeing the onset of dementia or Alzheimer's. Aggression can be a indicator. Not excusing what happened, just possible reason. Aggressor is still responsible for what he did.

As far as I can tell we'll be ok. A few slight alterations in our process with our customers was agreed upon as the best way to move forward and make the landlord feel better.

Kemasa thanks for the suggestion (my wife made it as well, but after I read yours so you get credit this time only). I believe it helped smooth the waters a bit even though I presented it after the discussion was complete.

It'll be PC 242 for Battery. 240 for Assault is an inclusive lesser charge to 242. The only difference is if contact was actually made or not, and in this case it was.

This is one of those incidents where the victim has to want to press charges in order for the arrest to be made (might be just cite and release now depending on the agency/county). Did your landlord sign a private persons arrest form? If so, then the officer would've had to either take the accused into custody, cite and release, or release without charges if evidence wasn't sufficient. If the former two, your landlord will need to attend court as the victim and possibly you and your wife as witnesses.

Realistically, the outcome will vary on these charges, but push on through because your landlord has a right to be safe. Keep us posted.

Also, I agree that there are unsavory folks who blame FFL's for things out of their control. I've got stories for days.

Because he was 8 hours early for his 7pm appointment.
                        Demanded his personal property.
Demanded his gun and didn't understand why I wasn't at the office (I don't work days and have told him this repeatedly).
Demanded to know why we were not ready for him.
My wife said she would try to accommodate between other appointments.
Landlord told him to have a seat in the lobby so the receptionist didn't have to keep tabs on him.
He said something to the effect of "eff the receptionist"
Landlord asked him to wait outside if he couldn't control his mood.
As he got to the front door he turned around and punched landlord in face.

He started out by saying he was in a bad mood from something else earlier in the day and took it out on everyone in my landlords building.

Blames everyone here for what happened. No personal accountability for being in a foul mood before he got here and effing up.

ETA: TL;DR - I really have no idea which specific thing triggered him to throw the punch.

This is very true, he should have let you know the pickup time or said to call to find out. I said that was a problem for the FFL.

Look at what you are saying, that the FFL should ...

But where is the customer should ...?

As far as I can tell we'll be ok. A few slight alterations in our process with our customers was agreed upon as the best way to move forward and make the landlord feel better.

Kemasa thanks for the suggestion (my wife made it as well, but after I read yours so you get credit this time only). I believe it helped smooth the waters a bit even though I presented it after the discussion was complete.
I suspect that it will be viewed better since you did it after the discussion was complete since then it is not viewed as a bribe to get them to do what you want, but as an apology for what happened even though it was not your fault.

I suspect you would be better served to credit your wife though.
