Whoa, but then how would gun owners be safe? If they don't get their warning tag there's no way they can safely operate the firearm. Nevermind that they get tested when they pickup and sign the Safety Demo Affidavit.

In theory they passed an in person practical test demonstrating safety before they can get their hunting license. Obtaining the hunting license implies they passed the hunter safety course for the most part..

Hmmm, quite some time ago a LE firearms instructor told a range story. She was at a range where police were qualifying and one officer shot and the firearm did not sound right, so she told him to stop and check the firearm to make sure it was not a squib load. The officer stopped shooting and looked down the barrel of a loaded firearm. She nearly had a heart attack.

More recently I was in a class and talking to a person who was a firearms person. A friend of his just got accepted to the academy. He offered to take her out shooting. She said no, she was not interested as she was not likely to ever have to use her firearm.

Some are good, but for some a firearm is a tool of their trade, much like any other tool.

The tag will not make anyone safe. I doubt that many read the tag and I also suspect that the type of person who is likely to read the tag is not typically the type that need to have a stupid tag to tell them not to be stupid.

But the CA DOJ can go after FFLs who don't tag the firearms and that is something that they seem to like.
