How do we know the DROS can be delivered? What if there was a glitch and they were delayed or denied and we were not notified?

Well, perhaps because they want the signature and thumbprint on the "delivered" copy. Yes, I admit, those guys have me scared into submission.

When your girlfriend gets arrested and spends three days in jail for possessing a handgun that was not only DROS'ed to her, but also went through a LEGR process, you tend to be a little gun shy when it comes to the DOJ. Charges were dropped, but she had to spend three days in jail.....
