Good point! I've run across those (maybe) DMV errors and have automatically corrected the error. Maybe by letting these errors fly DMV and DOJ will start talking to each other. Not likely...

Not correcting the errors might be a problem. One customer's DL had "3rd", which is unacceptable for the DROS system.

Get away with? Wasn't my point. They appear to allow for a keyed entry when the stripe doesn't work.

You asked how would they know. Yes, if you try to swipe it and it does not work, then you can enter it in. You can manually fill out a DROS worksheet and type it in, but you still need to swipe the DL/ID later when the person comes to pick it up, or read it offline at the same time.

They don't seem to be concerned with residence either. It's license number, Date of birth and name. Probably expiration too but that will raise a DMV reject anyway if the license isn't current. Height, weight and possibly sex may very

If you try to swipe it, then you are in compliance.

I have mistakenly tried to enter expired D/L twice and each time the DROS was rejected due to invalid ID.

Probably they hadn't paid the renewal yet.. we always wait for non-expired hard copy to be present because we have been burned a couple times..

Were you able to submit the DROS? That is what I am talking about, not whether it gets rejected later. If the ID/DL is not valid, i twill get rejected, but in my opinion the DES should reject the submission if the DL/ID is expired.

A paper copy of the DL is not valid, but that means if the customer gives you a DL/ID which is expired, but you don't notice, then the DROS will go through. You will have a problem with the 4473 since you have to put the expiration date, so it depends on how you process everything.

True, but the law is still that you have to swipe it, even if you look at it and it is half gone. I think that they went cheap with the licenses, which makes it worthless. It would be nice if you could scan it, but then that would add expense for a reader for the computer.

We can actually scan the spaghetti on the back for our POS system. For whatever reason, it doesn't work on the DES system. That might be an upgrade DOJ could do but good luck with that.
