    Recieving guns from an individual

Sigh..... So I get a phone call today asking if we will accept a firearm from a non licensee. We do. I tell the guy on the phone how to do it and what we want with the firearm shipment so we can process the transfer. Guy is super cool on the phone and this thread isn't about him. Its about the guy who sent me a gun 10 minutes later when FedEx shows up for their daily delivery.

I got another gun with NO contact info for who this firearm is for. We are getting 200 interstate transfers last month and I assume we are going to continue that trend into December.

Here's my gripe people who aren't FFLS.

If you want to SAVE MONEY and not send through another FFL then send everything that we need to contact YOUR customer. I'm getting tired of being the idiot who has to track YOU down for information about the gun YOU sold. I swear if I get another box that literally only has a rifle inside I'm going to stop accepting guns from non licensees. We don't have time to waste tracking down your buyers name and number. When I get 15 guns in a day and I have to waste 30 minutes trying to figure out who this belongs to make me want to stop accepting from YOU the public. Lots of people do it right, lots do it wrong. If you're reading this consider it a public service announcement and do it the right way. Or when then time comes for you to sell a firearm and the other FFL wont accept it from you direct you know why! If everyone does it right it will be easier and cheaper for the whole community.

......ALSO, stop shrink wrapping and using an entire roll of clear packing tape around a rifle when you send it. Wrap it nicely so I don't scratch your gun when I'm trying to cut all the wrap and tape off. I'm a gun dealer not a surgeon. I'm not that nimble.

So, to expand the PSA, what do you need to have in the box with the gun? (I can guess, but since I'm not running an FFL business, I don't know.)

My old table top FFL used a Check list with an initial/check box for each enclosed document / info. I always went to see him to make sure he would accept the item I wanted. He wouldn't do "BLACK GUNS". I forwarded the check list to the seller and it worked very well every time.

To bad he's not doing home stuff any more. He he has a shop now ~ 25Mi away.

          Hang in there.

Information on who the buyer is (name, phone number, email address), who the seller is (copy of ID) and it also helps to have on the same paper information on the firearm, but that can be gotten from the firearm itself.

Personally, I would not put much effort into trying to determine who the firearm is for. Then again, I do not give out my information until I get a copy of the ID of the person selling it because if I don't get it in advance, I may never get it.

This is the info that I ask for in advance:

            Auction Number/Invoice Number:

Yes, I should have expanded the PSA! but at the time I was ready to jump into oncoming traffic! I just had about 30 guns come in and this one had nothing! It was the last straw.

I figured, but it's polite to ask.

I'm a dick, I don't waste my time trying to figure it out, I make people prove ownership, after the fact, at my convenience, to my satisfaction.

These also make great anecdotes as to why my transfer fee is so high.

This is the main reason we stopped years ago. In the last year we have started accepting non ffl transfers and in the last month had 6 guns come in with no info. We are going back to not accepting them except for family transfers.

As long as you have a good storage policy, there is no reason not to accept them. Within a short period of time you have a free gun to sell.

Absolutely, my regular customers appreciate me tending to their needs, rather than spending time hand holding people who can't follow simple instructions.

My honesty is going to get me in trouble.
