    Sorry for your loss Jeepers.

If the firearms are all going to his son and their is nothing that will hold up the estate in court then the son can do the Oplaw form http://oag.ca.gov/sites/all/files/ag...rms/oplaw.pdf?.

He will need his Firearms Safety Card to be able to fill out the form.
You, you, and you: Panic. The rest of you, come with me.
Incoming fire has the right of way.

Did your brother, RIP, have any children other than your nephew, even children that did not survive your brother but had children that did survive?

        Sorry for your loss

Make sure none of the firearms are RAW's or .50cal as they cannot be transferred to a resident of CA. If there are any of those see if a relative outside of CA can take them for the nephew.

Sorry to hear about this. But he should just need a oplaw form and the $19 fee. Pretty straight forward if there is non will and he's next of kin.

Sad news and so sorry for your loss. RIP.

I am guessing your brother verbally gifted those rifles to his son in late 2013.?

Before 1-1-2014 a father could gift his son long guns without paperwork.

Long guns were not registered at that time either. There is no law that long guns
Owned, gifted to vertical relatives or brought into California at that time, to be Registered. Even now (today) those gifted rifles do not have to be registered
By his son on long guns received as a gift from Dad before 2014. A FSC is required today, but not before 2014. So the son is good now.

              Be well
              Bob

Fewer people are killed with all rifles each year (323 in 2011) than with shotguns (356), hammers and clubs (496), and hands and feet (728).
