    Proof of residency

Ok to be clear on proof of residency and laws always change for HANDGUN PURCHASES proof of residency is used in addition to California ID or DL is another government issued document even if ID matched 4473 form. LONG GUN PURCHASES proof of residency is California ID or DL can be used itself IF it matches 4473 And if not then the second form of residency must be met?

Just bring your driver's license and car registration and you'll be fine as long as the address are current and match... unless you're military, are you?

Lol i think I should put periods after sentences. Ok for proof of residency what is needed for HAND GUNS is california DL and ID and a secondary proof of residency even if the form 4473 form matches the DL or ID. will be a government issued document. Now for LONG GUNS PURCHASES what is required is California ID or DL only needed if matches 4473 form. If the address don't match then secondary form is needed.

Correct, CADL or CAID with a proof of residence. Address' have to match on all documents. If the ID/DL doesn't have the correct address a government issued document may supplement.

If address doesn't match, a government issued document will need to be supplemented, a California proof of residence may or may not be acceptable, it must be government issued such as vehicle registration or an LA DWP bill can do both.

It isn't a 'secondary proof of residency'; it's

clear evidence of the person's identity and age, which is generally CA DL or CA ID,

                  and

documentation indicating that the person is a California resident, which can be a bunch of things noted at 11 CCR 4045

Nothing 'secondary' about it for handguns.

The screwy part comes when you realize the Feds accept that CA DL or ID for all of identity, age, and residence (in most cases).

Lmao, you should have taken our advice and hired Kemasa. If nothing else you would have walked away with this topic mastered. It's kind of his thing.

I have a mental picture of Kemasa slapping the back of people's heads like Gibbs does on NICS everytime someone says second proof of residence.

Kemasa doesn't live around me I tried he's from souther California. That's one thing most of the members on here are from Southern California and have a lot of hands on help with other dealers.

I suppose the option didn't come up, but consultants can travel if their T&E are paid. Too bad. I'm also not certain everyone needs hands on help from other dealers. You just seem to be a bit further behind. I never had another dealer come by in person to help me. All the additional help I received was from these forums. I did a lot of reading though.

Well im just confused on couple things I have been doing about 5 transactions now and I been just getting people's second documentation even if the ID or DL match just to be on the safe side but keep reading and just seems like long guns u can use only DL or ID if it matches the form.

Its pretty simple; if its a long gun and their address on their ID matches what they put on the 4473 you're good, nothing more needed.

If its a handgun you will need supporting documentation proving they reside in CA.

Sometimes their ID will NOT match their address and they will bring you something that is acceptable for CA, but not for ATF. You have to read the 4473 and see what is acceptable for proof of identity.
