I have never forgotten a pick-up, ever. In fact, I'm always excited and ready to p/u ASAP. I change my schedule so I can get my noobie at 10 days and one second after purchase. I guess my life doesn't have enough drama, and/or my memory is awesome.

The only time I left guns to be picked up was the day of the tragic boating accident.
    Sorry, not sorry.

Did they guy offer any explanation for his 17 month disappearance....

Or was it better not to ask....
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

Only 17 months. Something diff but at my old job, We had a guy come in and order a lift kit. We give him a price and he leaves a DP of $1500 on the parts. It comes it and we call him and call him nothing. 30 days passes and we pay to ship it back and have to pay a restocking fee. 5 years goes by and the guy shows up asking if we still had the kit and if not could he have his money back.

My boss give the guy back half his money back.

****.. I still have at my house back in East a pair of GTR Heads a guy dropped off for me to port and and I ever heard from him again. The heads cost $2000.00 each.

Every shop I've known I've discussed this with said it has happened at least once. Life happens, death, prison, things like that. It is good to have a policy that after a certain amount of time the guns are considered abandoned. I hvae DROSed hundreds of guns and have never totally forgotten about picking one up I've always done so before the DROS ran out.

I try to pick up by day 12-13 at latest but I once picked one up on the 29th day due to travel and business getting in the way and the gun being 80 miles away.

I want to ask you two how you can be positive that you haven't forgotten one? Come on, think about it. If you forgot about it, how would you remember that you forgot about it?

I don't think I've ever forgot about picking up a gun but, I once found a gun that I didn't know I owned. It took me about 10 minutes of holding it in my hands before I remembered where I got it from and when.

I'd think the shop would at least attempt a few times to contact me if I had forgotten to pick up. Last I've checked I've never been to prison, died or anything like that. I have forgotten 1-2x where I got a gun or that I even had it usually I have a good memory for that knowing where 99% of guns I got where bought and what I paid and approximately what year but as time passes it is harder to remember.

In our 40+ years of having this shop we have run across this multiple times.

We have notices posted that all firearms left unclaimed for 12 months will be considered abandoned. We call multiple times and send a certified letter near the end of the 1 year mark.

It's surprising how often this happens.

Note to self, move shop down near CSACANNONEER so he can buy so many guns that he forgets what he ownes, lol.

I currently have an FN FiveseveN since September of last year. Completely paid for and customer has not come back to DROS. He was in his 1 in 30 so it wasn't dros'd. No response from him either.

6 months is our limit. We communicate via email with a date that is 30 days out(7 months) stating that storage fees will begin accruing retroactive to the delivery date if no action by the buyer/transferee is taken. At 25.00 per week, usually the price of the gun is consumed immediately. Then at one week before, we again send a drop dead date letter. 9 times out of 10, this is when we hear from the buyer.

We have taken possession of a few with zero contact ( other than initial) from the buyer and sold the firearm to cover storage fees.

Twice this has happened to me. First time guy buys and pays for four Ruger Single-Tens and a M1A Scout. He, his wife, daughter, and son-in-law are going to DROS a Single-Ten apiece. He is also doing the M1A himself. He gets a delay and freaks out...doesn't want anything to do with the DOJ. His wife, daughter, and son-in-law have no issues. I have the M1A and the last Single-Ten. I repeatedly email him to see what we can do to resolve this...silence. I sent him a registered letter telling him I will refund much of the money he paid for the M1A and Single-Ten if he will just contact me...more silence. That was in early 2012.

Second time I transferred two expensive lowers for a Corrections Officer. He went past his 30 days and told me he'd come back and re-DROS. Never heard from him again. Still have his lowers after repeated attempts to contact him. This was early 2014.

I put the M1A in my name but still have the Single-Ten and two lowers in the safe. If someone wants to buy them I will not hesitate to sell them.

It's weird how common this is. Shop told me some old man had 2 Colt SAA's shipped in. They said he was hard to deal with and kept complaining about fees and DROS. Then suddenly he just disappeared. Gun shop closed this year and moved out of state I think they had these guns still and maybe a few more from consignees that would not respond to attempts to contact them.

Maybe he did some time in county. I guess you'll find out if he's denied next dros.
