Heres a question on shipping a gun via USPS

I have a gunbroker question from an FFL holder asking me to ship a handgun he is interested in buying via usps. I told him I cant since I am not an FFL. He claims that he will generate the prepaid label and in that situation it is legal since I am only the person dropping it off for him. He is the FFL shipping and receiving using his credentials so it is legal.

I explained to him that I cant even be on USPS property with a firearm and I am a ccw holder there is no way I can ship it. How can it be him shipping when its me dropping it off and its being sent from me to him?

I want to be sure that I am not uninformed somehow but I certainly doubt that.

You are correct. You can, however, ship via FedEx or UPS, but it won't be cheap.

There's also a chart further down the page I linked that specifically addresses your situation. It says that if you're shipping to a dealer (FFL) then the Affidavit or Certificate requirements are;

Signed statement on PS Form 1508, Statement by Shipper of Firearms. The mailer must be a licensed manufacturer, importer, or dealer mailing to another licensed manufacturer, importer, or firearms dealer.

I am in San Bernardino county. Dont worry I sold the gun and not to that guy, lol.

I am tired of selling guns and fighting over shipping every time so I just made the auction free ship and I will eat it. Besides all that will happen is the buyer will increase their max bid more then they would considering the shipping fees associated to the total cost.

I am going to take it to UPS and pay what ever it is and insure for double. Hopefully they loose it and I cash out, lol.

^^This^^ Depending on what the FFL charges for his time, it might even end up cheaper than FedEx/UPS, since they can ship USPS.

Also, depending on the distance and other strange things with USPS, the regional boxes might lower the cost of shipping even more.

Exactly...my LGS charges about $45 total to ship a handgun, since he can use USPS Priority Mail. There's no way I can ship that cheap UPS/FedEx Next Day Air.

You were local, we ship for just the cost of postage. We know it's a PITA and would be happy to help those that need it.

I have no issue paying a FFL some coin for their time to ship. I just havent found one I trust in doing it.

Last time an FFL took $60 from me and was supposed to insure the gun and ship. He freaking put it in a fedex ground box not insured and not declared a gun. That was several days of stress hoping it made it to the destination and didnt get intercepted.

^^^ ffl screwed up. By law all firearms shipped must be declared. No insurance required.

If you are shipping gun parts via USPS, I think that is acceptable to them. You would have to disassemble the item then ship as gun parts . . . Possibly make two shipments - 1 shipment is the barrel and the 2d is the rest - obviously gun parts and shippable via USPS then.

The way I prefer to ship is to have the person have it ready to go, other than sealed, I record the serial number and other info, put the paperwork into the box, then the customer can seal the box. That way it is package as the seller wants it to be and they are responsible. I also ask what amount that they want for insurance.

In the case above, if the FFL did not insure it (which you need proof that was what you wanted), then if anything happened to it, the FFL would be responsible.

Kind of pointless since you'd have to ship the frame as a handgun anyway. Doesn't matter how much you disassemble the firearm, you will still have a frame to ship and the frame is always a firearm.

just my 2 cents from a couple of months ago, I shipped a handgun threw my FFL that handled the paperwork for free(still owe them a gun buy for that ) and shipping costs where around 80 bucks and had to hand deliver it to the closest UPS hub
