No, what I posted is the historic Christian faith. "Some sects" does not equate to what is believed, taught and confessed by the vast majority of Christians. If you want to talk about specific sects, than name them, don't characterize all of Christianity by them.

I would just add that one can certainly become misguided if one were to "live like I say or its eternal damnation." I would say that one needs to live as the Scripture communicates. Some may be blessed with insight into the Scripture, but if the Scripture disagrees with that one, that one is wrong.

Christ gives us the opportunity to escape eternal damnation. Eternal damnation is the destiny of all of mankind. So we are not in the middle, per se, either choosing life or choosing death. We are already dead. There's no other option given by God, but up^.

But whose definition of the scripture? Whose interpretation?

Sure. So again. You're saying they go to hell because they're not living like you believe they should. It's not a mischaracterization, nor is it limited to an extreme fringe.

No, you're twisting words. It's not about how someone lives their life, it's where they place their trust. Having placed your trust in Christ, you no longer live like someone who hasn't. Try it, you'll see what I mean.

The main things are plain. One doens't have to be a rocket scientist to know what sin as listed in the bible is.

Since homosexuality was brought up, lets follow this line.

The homosexual says they were born that way.

What does t he bible say?

            The bible agrees

            Psalms 51:5

Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, And in sin my mother conceived me.

            Romans 3:23

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
So none needs an interpretation to understand that we are all born into sin. Some want their sin accepted so they will make up their own belief system to pretend that their sin is not sin.

The bible is clear on this too

18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19 because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. 21 For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures.

24 Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them. 25 For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

26 For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, 27 and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.

28 And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper, 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are gossips, 30 slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, 31 without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful; 32 and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them.
You see, the bible explains this so one doesn't have to have a degree in theology to know that 1 we are born sinners and 2 people who don't want to believe the truth will make up their own truth and play pretend, you tell me if you need to have a degree in theology to tell me if any of the passages I have posted are up for some sort of different interpretation. We are all born that way and all need Jesus to overcome being born 'that way'.

Colossians is right, the IQ doesn't need to be very advanced to interpet the clear teachings in the Scripture. It's all there in black, white and some red.

So, once again, for the fifth freakin' time.

It all comes down to "live your life like I say or its eternal damnation". Which is exactly what Mossy said annoys him about some aspects of Christianity.

If that is your perspective. I would say if you go through life with the glass is half full mentality and a doom and gloom cloud hanging over your head, that you will be a miserable person and not ever feel the love of the Creator. if you believe that you are the created, wouldn't you want to follow the Creator much like children want to be like their parents, or if you don't have children, the dog that is so loyal to you and greets you at the door with excitement?

Isn't it right for a parent to warn their children about the evils of this world, and encourage them to be upright standing citizens in society while being a blessing to others that they come in contact with?
My parents warned me the evils of doing drugs, and I didn't listen, I condemned myself to the hell that I put myself through. Who is condemning who?

                        Romans 1
Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error. Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done. ...

Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men.

Well, considering that God created hell with the express purpose of torturing us sinners (whom he created with a sinful nature)...that example doesn't really work.

But that's a topic for a different thread (Loving God versus Hateful God, maybe?).
