Except for when hopefully the individual attains enlightenment. At which time, they go to a heaven of sorts.

      Not exactly.
We "check out" physically but our soul and spirit lives on, eventually our old body's will be renewed during the resurrection.

I would ask the non-believers in past lives - How does one account for the verifiable and documented memories of people (many of whom are children) who claim to have been someone else in the past?

I really don't believe in reincarnation, but if it's true, I would really like to come back as a lesbian.

That way, I can still date women...and hit from the ladies tees.

(BTW, I cleaned that up a bit from its original form...use your imagination.)

              1) There are many accounts documented in books about young children recalling accurate details of past lives they could never have known anything about (i.e. war veterans, natives of other countries etc.) that when investigated prove accurate, let alone thousands of cases of past life regression through hypnosis but I won't consider that because it is too upsetting for most religious believers.

              2) I do not know. It is just as conceivable as a lot of other ideas.

Evidently there are Christians who accept reincarnation as biblical.

I think the definition in your link is different from the type of reincarnation that is being discussed here.

                  1) Citation needed. It would be helpful if you could provide verifiable evidence for your claim.

                  2) There are many accounts of people believing things which aren't true and swearing by memories which never occurred. Given the clear neurological understanding of how memories are recorded, by what mechanism can a brain recall something it wasn't around to form neural connections for.

                  3) Conceivability doesn't in any way speak to actuality, and at any rate I don't find past lives remotely conceivable. There's no actual evidence I've come across to support it anyway, hence the request for some from you. There's no natural mechanism by which it could be said to occur. Even forgoing the methodology problem, there's no rational basis here once you consider that there are far more people currently alive than have ever lived in all of human history. This means that on average you have well under a 50% change at ever having been incarnated as human before and staggeringly bad odds at having lived multiple lives.

3 billion increased to 7 billion within my lifetime.

Where are all the new souls coming from?

I received a PM notifying me that I should look this up for myself by a previous poster. I guess evidence is so easily forthcoming that one cannot be bothered to provide it themselves when making claims.

That's not true. There are gnostic texts that seem to talk about reincarnation, but those are all second-fourth century texts.
However.....the bible does include account of men in pre-Christian times being taken to heaven. AND.....the life of Jesus himself does present a picture of a complete cycle, spirit creature, then born as a human, and then returning to spirit life.

                                Hmmmmm????
