Read your own post and see where your focus is - on yourself. You've got to fight yourself thought-by-thought. I'd suggest simply starting by being thankful. Every time the negative thought comes in, turn into something to thank the Lord for. Think about what Christ has done for you and the eternity that you have awaiting you (1 Peter 1:3-5). Then, look at 1 Peter 1:6! In this you greatly rejoice, EVEN THOUGH NOW FOR A LITTLE WHILE...you face trials. Consider each phrase of 1:6
1 Pe1:6 In this you greatly rejoice, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various trials,
You rejoice in the midst of present trials. How can you do this? Your rejoicing isn't based on the trial, it's based on what God has done for you in Christ.
"even though now for a little while" - trials are temporary
"if necessary" - necessary from God's point-of-view. He wants you to grow closer to Him through/in Christ. Living by faith, not by flesh.
"you have been distressed" - GOD MAKES TRIALS HARD! Yep, distressing, painful, etc. - emotionally, spiritually, and sometimes physically.
"by various trials" - "multi-colored" - God makes the trial unique to your spiritual growth needs. Your trials are different than mine.
So, I'd suggest start by being thankful for everything - all day long. When you're thankful, you are acknowledging someone else did something for you - and you appreciate it.
1 Peter was written to Christians suffering under Nero - horrific trials of persecution. The book starts this way because this is God's answer - focus on the eternal, not on the temporal, fallen life, here. The best is next. The rewards are next. Trials are now to ween you / break you away from the world's hold you. Let God grow you closer through your relationship with Jesus Christ - your moment-by-moment, day-by-day, relationship with Christ.
