HBO has a comedy series called "The Righteous Gemstones" about a family that runs a ministry. They collect millions each week tax free. The big mansions, cars, and private jets are owned by the church and are needed "for the Lord's work".

The church around the corner publishes it's financial statement once a year. And the pastor, who has a masters is paid peanuts compared to what a masters would garner in the private industry. I don't know his tax status.

The church that my daughter goes to, does the same thing. There were a couple years that the pastor didn't take a salary because the church was struggling and his wife is a teacher and they made that work.

I also know that these guys put in a lot of hours, being a pastor is not a 9 to 5, 5 days a week job.

We need to thank God everyday for these people and their spouses that they don't crumble under the load they carry. ....Thanks you Jesus.

              Just wondering.
I think they should be public to church members of that particular church.

                    That is his job/career.

In my denomination, ministers have theology degrees and are full time employees of the church who make themselves fully available to parishioners while also providing a leadership role, leading multiple services a week. They also make less than people in industry which can make it hard to get younger people to take up ministry. No one gets rich ministering in my church. I’ve known many who have spent their entire lives doing this as well all while still being paid less than others in comparable secular jobs but they do it to serve God and His church.

I certainly wouldn’t want my minister to be some kind of part timer.

I helped a large church with their financials back in 1998. I stopped going to church after that... not saying my experience is the norm, but after that I don’t trust them anymore.

Church of guns? That's just silly. It should be called Ministry of Firearms.
