Transubstantiation is no longer a matter of restriction of the cup/wine being only for the priest and the wafer for the laity. ( Blood of Christ too sacred for the possibility of it being spilled by accident ) It is still set forth as billvau told, but when the Charismatic movement reached into the Holy Roman Apostolic Catholic Church many rules concerning communion were relaxed. Grape juice instead shouldn't be a problem in most instances.

Hey now, I resemble that remark.

What do you call a sober Irishman?

      A Myth.

      Sorry, not sorry.

For centuries on end, maybe forever, only the Priest drinks from the chalice of wine. There is a place in NT where Paul (I think it's Paul) recommends stop serving meals at communion. The congregations have been overdoing it: eat a lot and drink a lot at communion.

1 Corrinthians "20 Therefore when you meet together, it is not to eat the Lord’s Supper, 21 for in your eating each one takes his own supper first; and one is hungry and another is drunk. 22 What! Do you not have houses in which to eat and drink? Or do you despise the church of God, and shame those who have nothing? What shall I say to you? Shall I praise you? In this I will not praise you. "
