Wanting to work in law enforcement in order to get exemptions and thinking it looks cool is the equivalent of wanting to join the military just to get college money and PX privileges.

Absolutely nothing wrong with signing up for GI Bill money.

No, there isn't. In fact I used GI Bill money to finish my 4 year degree. But hopefully most people would relish the honor and privilege of serving more than just the bennies that come with it.

One of the best Radar lines was where he brought Colonel Potter some sandwiches during very cold weather. (I have been to Korea in the wintertime, and it is brutal!) the Colonel bites into the sandwich and remarks to Radar that the sandwich is nice and warm. Radar replies that was because he carried it from the mess hall in his arm pit.

They DLA do not attend FLETC and therefor do not qualify as police officers. DOD police who attend FLETC are police because of the classification they are.
If the position you are going for is an GS-083 then you will attend FLETC. Then you will be a police officer. If you go somewhere else..you are not really considered a police officer because you did not meet the standard level of training afforded to you at FLETC.
I know this is an old thread but you are 100% wrong. Anyone who is hired as a GS-0083 is a police officer no matter what academy they go through. DoD police officers can carry under LEOSA.

Navy - Starting to send to FLETC
            Marines - In-house academy
            Air Force - VA Academy
            Army - In-house academy

              Really?

I've been in this game for a long time and in fact taught at FLETC at Glynco and Arestia..

So you tell me how I am wrong? Considering that a DLA officer was charged with murder for killing an individual because he was mad.

DOD police serve at the discretion of the Base Commander. If the Base Commander sends you to FLETC all the better..But you can also be sent to the in house academy and your powers would be limited.

I know of certain DOD police departments where the officers were required to surrender their badges and firearms at the end of the shift. They did not possess any authority to carry off duty. That authority is granted by the Base Commander. If all he wants is the DOD to be the gate guards then that is all you are..

Don't try to oversell yourself into believing otherwise.

An academy has no bearing on the of level police powers for the DoD police. Marines send there people to Miramar (In-house academy) for 12 weeks. They can carry of duty via LEOSA and no base commander can stop it. Yes DoD police only enforce UCMJ on base while on duty and have no authority off base but that it not what the topic was about. It was about carrying off duty. Also who gives a **** about off duty authority unless you are one of those LEO's that go around trying to arrest people while off duty.

Then the DLA Police are police and not security

Then based off your statement the DLA Police are police officers. I've attached a photo from USA jobs which shows they are 0083 designated, and are sent to FLETC for there training academy. Well at least the DLA Police in Richmond, Va are. I only know that because I was just hired there and thats where the Capt. stated they send all of there police hires now. This may not have always been true, but it certainly is now.

                    DLA Officer

Since you were just hired then you got lucky because I've been in the system much longer than you. Most of the guys who transferred to my agency in recent times did not have to attend FLETC. In the past DLA went to their own academy not FLETC. The agency has changed and moved ahead. In the past it wasn't the same requirement of same training. Some went to their own academy and a few lucky ones got to go to FLETC.
