Do you carry the same platform off duty?

My department issues a sig P226R E2 with a tlr-1 light.I can't stand the damn thing, It's not because I don't shoot it well... heck I got top gun in the academy with it. It's because I've been shooting glocks for years. I shot a glock in IDPA years before I became a deputy. Off duty I carry a glock 19 with a rmr , sometimes a glock 42. I'm strongly considering picking up a sig m11-a1 and sticking the glocks in the back of the safe for commonality... even though I'm not entirely convinced it's that big of a deal and I also believe the glock is a superior weapon system.

Whats your duty gun, and what do you typically carry off duty?

G22 Gen4 w/TLRs1 duty gun (personally owned, though the agency issues G22's in either gen 3, RTF2, or Gen 4 depending on what is available), and carry a G27 with a CT as a BUG/OD carry.

Im issued the same sig P226r E2 grips with the surefire X300U. I carry the Sig P224 as my off duty since it uses the same P226 mags. I have a bunch of 20rd mags that I can interchange with my 226 and 224. All the controls are the same but in a compact size.

I carry a Glock 21SF at work and a Glock 30SF off duty. There's always room for Glock hatred on Calguns but I'm not fazed. I shoot both well and I'm an admitted Glockaholic.

We just changed from 229s to G22s and most of our guys shot better. But, the comments were that they don't like the feel of the gun in there hand and the Glock is much more snappy when fired.

But we are also issued G27s as well, so yes, I carry the same platform off duty as on. On duty, I have both weapons on me.

Retired now, issued weapon was a beretta 92f. I carried a sig p220r equinox 45acp on duty, off duty and still now. I recently bought a sig 226 scorpion that may change that. I do not like the feel of glocks.

Sig P226 .40 caliber on duty
              Glock 30 .45 off duty
5 shot revolver and glock 42 for bugs.

I'm all over the place with calibers and platforms.

              Doesn't bother me one bit.

A lot of it depends on your Dept Policy. Some restrict what you can carry off duty. My Dept says we can carry whatever we want off duty. When we were issued the Sig226R I carried a full sized 1911, compact 1911, a Sig P228, P226, S&W Chiefs speical all off duty at different times. Now that we are issued Glcoks, I carry a Glock 19 off duty exclusively.

Carry what you are comfortable carrying. Neither Glock nor Sig have any safeties to fumble with, just draw and pull trigger. Shouldnt be an issue carrying a Sig on duty and a Glock off duty. In fact thats exactly what one of my leo friend does.

Right now my duty gun is a S&W M&P9L with Surefire X300 Ultra and CTC lasergrips. Off duty I predominantly carry my M&P9C or Shield, though I sometimes carry other guns. I recently did an experiment and carried my Beretta 92FS Inox for three weeks in a "Sticky" holster (nice but I prefer Remora holsters) and then my HK USP 45 for three weeks, also in the same "Sticky" holster. Not as easy as the 9C, let alone the Shield, but doable. I still really like my S&W 3914 and CS9 so those get rotated in occasionally too.

What duty holster do you use for the m&p 9L? I can't find anything for the longer slide m&p pistols that accommodate a light.

Yes, carrying the same gun on and off duty, 24/7.

Those who have the ability to legally carry, should do so.
