    Shod Foot?

The article below says the deputy was continually attacked with a "shod foot." I've never heard that term before; is it codified here in CA? It appears to be used in MA so maybe it has regional origins?

Authorities said the deputy was knocked to the ground, at which point Estrada allegedly continued attacking him with a “shod foot.”
I'm guessing it means to continually kick someone when they're down?

A Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy was in critical condition after being assaulted by a domestic disturbance suspect at a Lakewood shopping mall Friday night, authorities said.

I know there already is a thread about the attack but I didn't want my question to get buried so I started this one addressing the specific term.

My interpretation has always been that "shod" means there was some kind of footwear being worn (i.e. not a naked foot).

That is exactly correct. Shod is a real old and antiquated term.

When a horses foot is shod it means it has a shoe on. Same here I guess as others have stated.

As explained to me............A "shod foot" used in an assault "can" escalate from assault to ADW. Because when so used, the shoe is now a weapon. Especially when great bodily harm is done with it. As is the case with the Dep in Lakewood.

The LA county jails use the term "shod" foot when writing reports for a battery or 245, when an inmate wearing his footwear, kicks someone with it. At least they used to use that term all the time.

How do you get intent from simply wearing steel toed boots?

                        Hahaha, right on.

It makes me laugh when I still hear ignorant LEO's broadcasting, "..... an 'ATTEMPT' 245 occurred at....." How in the &$@% does one have an "attempt" 245 anywhere in the state of California? You either have a good 245 or you don't. There's no such thing as an "attempt" 245 in the Cali penal code folks.

It's even worse when field crews bring in a 664/245 arrest for booking.

Every time that happened, I'd take the young deputies on a "word-by-word" journey through the Penal Code, starting with section 240 (Definition of Assault) and usually ending with section 243(d) (Battery with Serious Injuries).

OP - Every big LE agency has it's own unique vocabulary. LASD is (was) big on the use of "Shod Foot" to describe a person wearing a shoe on their foot, "Portals" to collectively indicate doors and windows, and "Radio Car" to indicate the skunk-colored vehicles driven by patrol deputies.

People, at least in law enforcement, get in the habit of using phrases that they hear and that really are stilted, redundant or make no sense.
"Struck with a closed fist." (Ever see an OPEN fist?)
"White in color." (Could it be white in size?)
"At this time." (You mean NOW, right?)
                            "Verbal argument" (What?)
And they just keep on appearing in reports and radio calls. The Undead...
