Contacts And stuff stays with the phone unless otherwise done. When ever I had to get a new phone. I always had to upload all the stuff to iCloud so unworldly loose it all.

Thai was at the AT&T store and apple store.

Activating another iphone won't do any at all either. You gotta find someone to bypass the lock screen. Which can be done. Some know how tondo it. And others just unkock te whole phone which will delete everything stored in it.

I'm wondering why the guy is asking the PD for tech support.
It was not a threat. It was an exaggerated response to an uncompromising stance. I was taught never to make a threat unless you are prepared to carry it out and I am not a fan of carrying anything. Even watching other people carrying things makes me uncomfortable. Mainly because of the possibility they may ask me to help.

People already ask us to do just about everything else, why not?

Believe it or not LE techies have some of the most sophisticated training when it comes to computer / cell phone forensics. Many guys in the private sector got where they are now from the free training they got as cop. Bypassing passwords to extract data is something we have to do on a regular basis. I know its hard to believe, but 90% of the people out there will tell you to pound sand when asking for the pass code warrant or no warrant. Can't say I blame them.

As far as unlocking the phone I guess he wasn't married or had a girlfriend because they would definitely know the pass code.
