    Locked IPhone

I'm a Deputy and recently took a motor cycle crash where a you man died. I gave his father his cell phone but the thing is locked. Dad tried to put in the pass code too many times and it locked up. Its an Iphone 5s.

The dad seems like a really nice guy and keeps emailing me about how to get his son's phone unlocked so he can look into it to inform some of his friends.

I emailed the computer detectives but the only answer I got was that it cant be unlocked and the dept said using the cellbrite reader wont work.

Does anyone know of a way to unlock this phone? id write a warrant to apple but nothing criminal occurred and I think they would turn it down and it would be a waste of my time.

I'm trying to do dad a favor and work on this cause I would want someone to do the same for me and he obviously wouldn't email me if he didn't need help.

    Any suggestions?

This is one of those should I or shouldn't I situations. Yeah you want to help out dad, but could there be anything in the phone that may spoil his memories of his son? Judging by some of the stuff I've seen on phones of young adults, I'd be hesitant. I'm sure if he took it to an Apple store/cell provider there should be some way to unlock it. He would just have to prove that he is legally entitled to the phone somehow.

Maybe both of you try taking it to an apple store? Not sure if there would be an ethics issue there...?

I'd call Apple and explain the situation to them. Then give them dad's info (if he agrees to you giving it out) and let Apple handle it from there.

I posted this in your other thread but will do it here too. If you can get access to the computer that the iPhone was synced with you can run a program called iExplorer. It will give you everything data wise that is in the backup including contacts. Give that info to the father and let him do it. You did what you could for him now let him follow through if he wants to.

I know up to the iphone 4/s. When being unlocked. The phone would be wiped clean
                      Upon unlocking it.

I would lays use Asian dudes in Westminster.(Huntington beach area). Check Craig list and call some of the numbers and talk to them direct.

Google will also help you on what software you need. When I looked into doing it. It was being said that I can make the phone useless by "bricking" it. Meaning ten phone is usess after that. It's ruined.... No good.... So I didn't want to mess with it.

Technically if you wait long enough someone might find an exploit for the iOS version installed on this phone and it will be possible to access it.

If the father has access to the sons computer, I would suggest looking through his itunes. Sometimes the contacts are stored in there. Or he can try with the apple employees and see if the contacts are backed up on Icloud. Also maybe the service provider (Verizon, AT&T...etc) can transfer the contacts.

Would it be possible to get another iPhone (a used one that has been wiped or a new one) and activate it on the son's account? The contacts, etc. should sync to the new phone.
