    Stockton PD shooting

A 19-year-old suspect was identified Thursday morning by police as one of the three armed men who led police on a high-speed chase through at least three cities Wednesday, firing shots into cars and houses along the way, and throwing hostages from a speeding SUV after a bank robbery that led to the deaths of one hostage and two of the robbers, officers said.

Cell phone video of about 100 cop cars responding. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=737435626302668

    sounds crazy.

I remember Stockton(or at least parts) being not too different from the TV Western "The Big Valley". Feed and Supply, tractor dealership, boat yard, shipping docks, classic American diner.

So about 2yrs ago during RE crash I see this big 6bd room on big lot for real cheap and rush out to eyeball it, all happy as a puppy. Figured it was gonna need bit of sprucing up, etc, since it didn't say "just remodeled".

Well, lets just say it was probably a good thing I arrived about 6:30am Sunday before most of the neighborhood stated waking up.

Wait a minute, on "Big Valley" I guess they did have lots of wild action.

I'm guessing a "Hostage Situation" means the cops aren't allowed to 'break off pursuit'.

WTF with the guy blaming the cops for not stopping it sooner? This looks like a good case of police policy being just about exactly right and perfect balance of various "public safety concerns"(and even 'civil liberties'), especially given how these things are quite rare.

How about an Electromagnetic 'weapon' for this sort of thing to shutdown the car? I'm thinking of a 'soft' RPG type launched device with speed of around 300mph that could be launched at the subject's car from pursuing units or more likely from side of the road or Ghetto Bird. It wouldn't need to 'hit', just close enough and have minimal 'collateral damage risk'. Post up where the fleeing car isn't gonna be within 100ft of a school in secession.

Can't wait for the 'back story' on the robbery crew. I'm already blaming decades of Liberal Social Policy as root cause.

Last but not least, how many of their guns were 'legally acquired' or otherwise in proper CA configuration (10rd mags, rostered, etc)? I'm guessing they had a dozen guns(ammo strapped to body, obviously expecting major battle) and every single one was illegal/stolen/non-CA.

PS-I'm gonna use that FACEBOOK video in my upcoming low budget ZOMBIE OUTBREAK movie! Notice the guy is saying "da be shooting at COPS" etc, while hella other cops are rushing in to the scene. It will be that "civilians" or other cops are 'shooting at cops' because first responding cops got Zombie Bite and became Zombies who needed to be 'put down', but of course all the responding cops wont have clued into any of this, just "multiple shooters shooting cops, people in police uniforms shooting cops". A real 'hair ball'.

Yeah, who says police need rifles, armored cars, better ballistic armor, etc?

Now we know why Stockton is broke..... They bought out a dealership.

Sad they used one hostage as a meat shield, but I can only imagine that with the round count into the SUV, it prolly was a done deal regardless.

SPD is looking for a fourth suspect. The driver who dropped the three off at the bank.

"shoot through a hostage"? Sure, why not?

Just use non-expanding bullet and shoot through hostage's shoulder or other non-vital area into badguy's more vital.

In that situation the object would be to "bring them both down". You just need bullet into badguy to disrupt his 'program' with hostage enough for second police sniper to take second fatal shot, or for SWAT to rush him.

One suspect in custody two dead one unknown as he was evidently the smart one who got out of Dodge when it started going south.

Boy, What a suckass time for that ruling to come down from the courts telling us that the death penalty is cruel and unusual punishment for criminals...

And I think those officers knew that so they tried to save the taxpayers some money with those robbers.

Things like this suck but I thought I heard that some cars got taken out of commission so there must be a blessing somewhere if these guys had what they had and only some cars and maybe minor cuts came out of it... (no officers gunned down)
7 Billion people on the planet. They aint ALL gonna astronauts. Some will get hit by trains...

I'd like to say I think the cops handed this in best possible way.

Without needing full time Martial Law(which might not be bad idea in Stockton for a few years) the cops showed the chances of success for this sort of crime is about minus zero.

Then you gotta factor in that these 'capers' are gonna be at least triply rare because even with 'peer pressure' it is very rare to get more than one guy willing to plan for shoot out with 100+ cops, and even more rare more than 2 guys will be willing.

You start putting more LE resources on fighting the next big gun battle and you take them away from other public safety areas where people are much more likely to die, like 'mundane' DV, punks fighting over drug turf, and even speeding tickets in school zones.

Tragic that a hostage was killed, and maybe by police in the gun battle, but overall I'd say police policy in hostage situations is very successful.

Still like to hear how it 'went wrong' for the robbers or if it ever was going 'right'.
