He gets a retired credential from his agency, and finds a agency willing to do the certification part
For ccw only, he simply applies, I forget what PC it is that exempts him from any other requirements of an issuing agency, but then he only gets a state ccw, renewable every 2 years

I took my HR218 requal in Nevada even though I retired from California. The requal was conducted on the day they were qualifying civilians for Nev CCWs so the sheriff just had the form for LEOSA retirees and issued my "passed" paper.

Yes, but in NV you have to take your requal form to the PD and get a NV 218 card. NV Chiefs Assn stuck that in the State requirements. So I carry my retired creds, my NV 218 card and my Clark County blue card per handgun.

My NV qual can be signed by any NRA qualified instructor on the NV qual form. 30 rounds, 3,7 and 15 yards on Q target.

I would recommend you tread carefully with a Nevada "qual course". They use the same course for a concealed firearm permit. That course is not the course for active duty standards. LEOSA does not allow for a state carry license qual shoot to substitute for the active duty shoot standards.

Also, last time I looked at Nevada, they tried to double charge people by having them certify with "semi-auto" and "revolver" nonsense.

Neither term is defined anywhere in 921.

18 USC 921 uses the term "handgun" and according to 926c, if you qual with a gun of the same type, then you can carry any configuration or model of the same type.

The five "types" of firearms that are covered under LEOSA are (defined in 18 USC 921)...

Shotgun
Short-barrled Shotgun
Rifle (most likely encompasses "semiautomatic rifle")
Short-barrled Rifle
Handgun

There is also "antique firearm"
