    Upgraded Duty Glocks

Thinking about adding some stuff to my 21 and wanted to see what all was out there in the community.

Other than a light what else have you done to your duty weapons?
    -Guide rods
    -Mag wells
    -Extended releases?
    Etc??

Nothing. Our department is retarded. Not authorized to change anything.

The department demanded a "New York" trigger upgrade (that increases trigger pull over stock). They issue us lights for the G22, night sights are the only option, but the department armorer must install them.

They even insisted the trigger change on my G23 and my G27 off-duty weapon! (at least they provided the parts and made the change while I stood there at the bench)

Nothing beyond extended controls and night sights, which can only be factory Glock... liability!

Department Guns had to be worked on by Armorer, personal guns you could work on but had to be approved by Armorer before going into service.

          I installed the following
NY trigger with 3.5 lb connector
          Trijicon Night Sights
          Extended Mag Release
          Extended Slide Release
          Extended Take Down Release
          Polished Feed Ramp
          Mounted Streamlight

I carried it in a Safariland SLS holster. (Out holsters had to be approved if not department issued).

I have a TLR1s on my G22, and crimson traces on both my G22 and my G27 BUG/Off duty. My agency will issue the lights, but it was easier for me to just buy my own gear so I own it.

It would be a serious mistake to put a mag well on a gun unless you also used extended magazine base pads. Adding a mag well will preclude you from a quick magazine swap without the extended base plates. Without the extended base plates, you will have to seat the magazine using a finger to push it into place (up into the mag well). You will not be able to do the simple slam it in with the palm of your hand. Whatever time you gain from the mag well, you will lose in seating the magazine.

                  Is it a duty gun?

Of the three, you've listed, the only one I'd even consider is an Extended Mag Release if you can't reach the stock one.

We could mod our off-duty guns and the only thing I considered on my G19 was a night sight lamp on the front blade to go with the all-black 10-8 rear sight

Duty gun is OEM...upgrade the springs and such with new OE every 5000 rounds.

I did a really nice upgrade to my Glocks. I made them "Safe-Queens" and went back to a Series-70 Colt.

If your department allows you to modify stuff, these are some of the things I would recommend: vickers tactical slide release, (especially on the 21 since the oem slide release is almost flush with the frame), ameriglo Hackathorn sights, but I know a lot of people that also really like the trijicon HD sights. For a light I would recommend the Streamlight TLR-1 HL. If you want to add extra "grippiness" to the grip, you can get talon grips for pretty cheap. There are also some companies that you can send your frame out to and they will do some stippling for you. Hope this helps.

Not related to the OP post but I thought I'd share...

                              We have Sig P226 .40s.

All stock with night sights, and we are unauthorized modify our pistol. For cleaning, we can take the slide, recoil spring, and barrel off for basic cleaning...nothing further than that. If you want different grips, you shall take it to the department range staff/armorer for install/replace.

Anyway if you think you need to upgrade or test out those parts, go for it. If you do change over to something new...practice practice practice!!! You know how to work with the new parts. Like a mag well changes how you seat your mag if your reusing the base plates and don't upgrade to thicker/extended ones.
