Pay no attention to the keyboard ninjas. Let them have their thread. This place has lost a lot of legitimacy due to them.

One thing I noticed is that most cop haters are those who applied for leo and didn't make the cut.

Rip and prayers to the family.

Thanks to those who have cleared up the question as to why BART Officers would be conducting LE activities off of BART-controlled property. The question that keeps popping up in my mind is why would a SWAT-supported forced entry into a vacant domicile be necessary for a probation check?

From what I have heard, they were there serving a search warrant, and knew the suspect was in custody for something else. They found the apartment unlocked and thought someone may have been inside. No SWAT team just the two detectives from BART and Dublin PD. Where things went from there is all speculation at this time.

Small world. Turns out 1 degree of separation ... long time friend and colleague of mine is school time friends with Tom Smith with many years of close friendship with the Smith family. Even though I never met Mr. Smith it hits pretty close to home and hard, too. Words lose meaning at such times so one can only be there and ready to assist as needed.

From what little I know "great guy" is quite an understatement. A huge loss in no uncertain terms.

Regardless of the circumstances, it's doubley sad: One innocent man loses his life and another has to live the rest of his knowing he's responsible for the unintentional killing of someone he knew and cared for. I wouldn't want to be in either man's shoes.

It's even more upsetting to see how some members of this forum have already starting questioning and casting aspersions in regards to the incident.

Rest in Peace Sgt. Tom Smith.

Always a shame to lose a LEO brother. All the best to family he left behind.
