I have used both Smith and Wesson and Peerless. My own preference is S&W. I would stay with either one...I have seen both fail in one form or another. Either mechanically(locking mechanism) or inmates getting out of them when used from the the front. Getting her a long extended handcuff key is must unless working in the prison or jail...Since those keys are usually accounted for on a key group....

Peerless hinged. Love em for quick cuffing.

The Peerless 700b have issues so make sure to stay away from those.

Some departments will only allow certain brands and styles. When I retired from LASD, the only authorized brands were Peerless and Smith & Wesson. Hinged cuffs were not allowed.

In 32+ years, I never had any issues with either brand. I still have a set that we're on Evil Knievel when he was in custody at LA County MCJ back UN the 70's.

I had 100 pairs of peerless cuffs and 50 pairs of smith and Wesson cuffs that I have used in training for about 10 years. In all that time only one pair of smiths went bad. I've probably had about 10 pairs of peerless take a dump. I like the way the peerless are built because it feels like they are built better, but the reality is that they were not the best. I don't like the way the smiths function with the double lock transfer bar but I have to admit that they are durable. My department only allows smith or peerless.

She would probably dig some pink ones. Check out quartermaster uniforms or galls.

An extended handcuff key is one of those things that just make life easier and having more than one isn't a bad idea.

I used to use hinged cuffs, after I got off probation, and it is a great equalizer if you understand how to use them in cuffing and control.

We all laugh about Pink Cuffs, but I know an officer who spray painted his pink and he never "loss" his when cuffing multiple suspects or transporting prisoners

The only thing I know about hand cuffs is that I don't want the in them.

Please wish your sister a merry Christmas!

Not sure what level they are compared to actual LE handcuffs, but, I did have a event one day, where I found myself handcuffed without the key...I actually flagged down a Sheriff's cruiser, and, the deputy uncuffed me

I guess the key is pretty universal for handcuffs...I'm sure that, just by looking at them, he was able to tell they weren't LE issued cuffs...either that, or, he figured, what idiot, who was actually in custody, would escape, then, flag down a LEO to take the cuffs off

smith and wessons are common they have the double lock pin design i like the hinged type to me they've always seemed stronger to me less likely for a perp to get their hands in front of them

these are also nice to have she can keep them in a pouch, sew them to a sleeve cuff or thread them into a boot lace in the event that god forbid she gets cuffed with her own equipment

Get her a pair of fuzzy leopard print cuffs!

Seriously though, the girls I work with are going to these:

Handcuff Warehouse is the leading distributor of handcuffs & restraints to law enforcement, corrections, military, security and medical facilities. We pride ourselves in having the largest in stock selection of handcuffs. Handcuffs are an integral part of policing and we only carry quality products from leading manufacturers to help ensure that you are safe on the job.

Not necessarily this company but this type of powder coating. One of the girls has a pair of Peerless 700's in this hot pink color and a couple of the other local agencies have colored cuffs for their County transpo runs. It's a unique way to stay functional and stylish! I also have a hide-a-key in a boot and on one of my back keepers, just in case!

I have three pairs of Smith M-100's that I personally own (2 stainless, 2 matte black) along with my issued cuffs (also Smiths). I have had zero problems with them.

That being said, I have seen a pair of the ASP cuffs with the plastic/polymer overcoat that would not close because they had been bent and warped. Kind of made me leery of buying or carrying a set of those.
