Dealing with nuts on stops

Pretty much, the above. We try to roll additional units to TS's when we can, simply because we work in very questionable locations (not all over the county, but I work in one of the less touristy spots).

^This. There are some people out there that think that if they are enough of a pain in the arse that you will just let them go. Doing so just reinforces this behavior and makes it more difficult for the next officer that runs across them. If you have a legitimate traffic violation that they are stopped for and they refuse to show their license, it is no longer just a minor traffic violation, refusing to show your license upon request of a police officer is a separate crime. See 12951(b) CVC. a misdemeanor.

Just like the narco suspects who can instantly crap on themselves, go into a seizure, or say they cannot breath and their chest hurts when the handcuffs go on.

They always need to go to jail even if you spend hours at the hospital because then they are less likely to try it in the future to another Officer.

Dealt with one of these guys in the jail. They refuse to sign anything and will actually try to "charge" you for speaking with them. Most of them are purposely being a hassel because they know there are officers out there who will snap and do something stupid, or guys who havent dealt with it at all and dont know what to do. When in doubt call a supervisor. When you do deal with these guys dont let them dictate the scene, there are some out there who would love nothing better than kill someone working for the government.

One time, I had a belligerent driver. I ended up writing 2 page ticket and towed his car. I try not to engage. I just do my thing and be done with it.

Once, I had a female driver who refused to sign the ticket. After I explained that she will go to jail and will see a judge the next day, she reluctantly signed it. As she drove off, she yelled, "kiss my a**!!". Being public service conscious, I had to respond, "Let me know when!!!"

It's not so much the "sovereign" tools, but the 21 year old Youtube jockeys who think they have an amateur law degree because they saw the same thing on Youtube. Instead of getting jobs and contributing to society, they want to impress their equally stupid friends with their uncanny ability to waste everyone's time.

Thanks for the replies. Yes this guy is a "sovereign citizen" he managed to get excempt plates. Apparently there is a loophole he found. He pretty much trolls for leo contact. He is well known to my kids dept.

We had a guy who would leave letters and packages at the front desk of the division I worked at, that had are kinds of colorful language. He would also hang out near the station and yell things at both officers and civilian workers. We were actually able to get a restraining order against the guy because the harassment was ridiculous.

After he was served with the RO, he flipped off an officer that was driving by him on the street. The officer arrested him for violating the RO which stated he was not to harass any member of the department. He actually spent a few days in jail, and we never had a problem with him again.
