I loved my danner acadias, but holy hell they wear down quick. I wore a quarter sized hole into the outside heel panel and had to retire them.

This was something I was concerned about that I could not find information on. If you strip the boots does it ruin the water proofing? Because the winters are cold and wet...

if you plan on wearing these boots for duty....I wouldn't strip them down. slapping polish on top of the factory coating and spit shining should be enough to get through the academy. you can then use the same boots for work when a buff shine should suffice and not worry about ruining the water repellency.

if these boots are solely for ceremony, then I'd strip them and spit polish. if you don't strip them, the polish simply sits on top and doesn't get into the leather. over time, with consistent spit polishing, the polish starts to flake off since it's sitting on top of the coating.

there's no shortcut to spit polishing....just time, kiwi, tshirt, and water. I've tried the cotton ball, alcohol, heat, lighter fluid, etc, etc and nothing worked better than mindlessly polishing in front of the tv.
