The Tactical Medical Solutions drop leg kit may be a good alternative. Like we have all that extra real estate on our Sam Browns!

I've been carrying one on my person, since going 10-8. Was going to carry it in my warbag, but realized it is no good to me if I am shot while away from my vehicle.

Depending on where I am shot at, and with what caliber, I could bleed out in a minute or two. This is why I carry my CAT Tourniquet underneath my shirt. It sits on the left side of my vest (secured by vest straps), as I am right handed.

I'm not LEO, but I am an EMT/Army Combat Medic. I carry one when I am at the range, and always keep several in my go-bag in my car. My favorite is the C.A.T. One thing that I would advise is to practice putting them on. If possible, buy an extra to practice with. General rule of thumb is TQ applied in <30 seconds. It takes practice to use them efficiently!!

On another note, someone mentioned quikclot. This is an excellent product IF used correctly. In a combat scenario, we primarily use quikclot on junctional wounds (neck, axilla, groin).

If and when you decide to carry these type of products, please do some in depth research on the specific product that you carry so that you are familiar with the product, and how it works!!

*this is my opinion and not legal medical advice!

Rules for use of a tourniquet. I see alot of SWAT guys at the academy carry these. Incase you don't how to use them here some tips:

            1) Apply proximal ( above) injury site
            2) Never apply on joints
            3) write the time and date applied.
            4) Can only be used for 2-4 hours, before tissue below becomes hypoxic

Femur you can bleed out 1.5 -2 ml of blood, so take care of that wound fast.

                with a swat t tourniquet.

If you cannot apply the tourniquet with one hand it will be of limited utility. It is possible that whatever injures you may also disable one of your hands or your entire arm.

I bring this with me when I go hunting- http://www.narescue.com/portal.aspx?...C=DAD06AB67C9C

It can be applied with one hand.

The current standard of care is to have 2 tourniquets. EMT skills testing scenario has the application of one, it's not working completely, apply the second. If you are working in team where everyone has one, no problem. If you work solo and help is not close, consider a second tourniquet.

That is the standard equipment for L.A County Fire EMS. The input from actual field use is that it works as advertised.

Tourniquets are very important. Even the red cross is talking about reintroducing the training back in tontheir first aid courses.

CSM tactical is by far the fastest and strongest one I have seen. Rather than 10 or more revolutions to crank it tight it takes about a half turn to 1 turn. Extremely strong and durable.

They are a good idea. I carry a CAT one with me in my bag on duty, along with one of those Israeli pressure dressings and some quick clot combat gauze.

Haven't used or been trained on the quikclot. Brother is coming over Saturday to do a refresher course, if you will, on chest wounds and tourniquets. He said he has a few I can have. Going to ask him about quikclot. He did three tours to Iraq as a medic in the army.

Not a police officer or LEO.

I carry an Israeli dressing over a tourniquet. Two hours can go very quickly if you are in a position that can't be accesed until other troops or officers arrive. Very metropolitan area quick access to medical care OK Rural and more than two hours not good for the surviving tissue.

Just wanted to offer another thought. Head wounds the major area not covered by vest pretty hard to use a tournequet unless you don't like the person.

Old school 4x4s and an ace bandage.

                              Respectfully
