Tourniquet

Wanted to get ideas from you guys on and if you carry tourniquets on your person. Been juggling to idea of having it on my ankle or purchasing the pouch that attaches to your vest. Leaning away from the ankle at the moment.

It's a great idea! The best I have seen so far is the C.A.T tourniquet.... I have one in every Go Bag...

Just went to some training where they showed us a bunch of different kinds. When you go shopping, actually apply it (in the case you need to apply it on yourself. Some fit better than others (legs vs arms/ bigger guy vs smaller guy). Some are more durable than others. Just some things to think about.

I'm still shopping, but they are a must have in the field.

Make sure it is one you can deploy and use with only one hand.

The only issue I can think against the umk vest pouch, is if it takes a round.

I think I might pick up a sof and a swat. Video shows it with quikclot. On the fence about that.

FWIW I carry a hobble and baton, so there is a field expedient tourniquet right there! Albeit, 2 hands to maintain pressure...unless you can tie off.

Haha, duty bag strap and 550 with cord with soothes for me too. Thought about that too. Just wanted something neater, "tacticool" some might say. Ill admit, I'm a gear queer

Zipties would just be there to stop baton from backing out. Never thought about Ziptie cuffs...

I carry a SOFTT-W in a kydex belt pouch by eleven10:

I prefer the SOFTT-W because it has a metal windlass, is (in my opinion) more durable, doesn't have velcro to go bad or get clogged with sand/blood, etc., is easier to self deploy to both arm and leg injuries, and because the SOFTT-W is the preferred TK over the CAT by my department's tactical medics. It also takes up less space, though it is thicker when packed in a pouch.

I have four SOFTT-Ws in various places (one on each belt and one in the IFAK on each of my two main plate carriers) and a few CATs in aid bags. They are both good tourniquets that have been proven in combat.

The only thing wrong is it just doesn't work as well if at all. If that works for you then go for it.

I wear 5.11 Class B's and carry a SOFTT wide in my pants cargo pocket. I also have one (plus Oales bandages, etc.) in my trauma kit on my up-armor vest.

FWIW: the SOFTT is what the guys teaching the TCCC in OC issue (yeah UASI grants).
