I noticed the story and official statement says the round "disintegrated" when it hit a metal plate against the end of the barrel. Last time I shot an AR at a fairly thick metal plate it made a nice hole clean through. I can't imagine a vehicle mount that would contain this round. Anyone one else to weigh in? No hole in the asphalt?
Of course we all remember Robert Coulter, the CHP officer who at the beginning of his shift in 2003 was placing his loaded, chambered shotgun into the vehicle mount and it discharged, mortally wounding him in the station parking lot. Didn't we all learn after this that we shouldn't store long guns chambered?
Also, I guess the little **** who made every effort to put his long finger in there and pull the trigger is too young to get in trouble. Not that it has happened twice in the state recently....
