I will look into the tensioner, I would like to catch a problem like that early. Maybe I can swap out some parts from the 04 to the 03.

The intake boot was very straight with no major bends, no silencers built into it and it was NOT quiet. I could hear it sucking air, similar to the sound a cold air intake makes.

Any suggestions for winter tires? I hear a lot of good about the Bridgestone Blizzak tires. I will not be seeing much snow, but there will be lots and lots of rain and some ice in the worst part of winter. I have a 4x4 if I need to make it up to the mountains.

I plan on adding some Xenon (HID) driving lights behind the grille, I have some hidden xenon lights on all my cars. I spend a lot of time driving on back roads and the extra light really helps out.

I guess the guides get worn out easily and start making noise. I only know so much, because I used to own a 2000 P71 and did tons of research. Your not gunna believe this, but since many vics don't have a LSD diff, they actually used to tell officers to load the rear end down with more weight for extra traction in snow LOL!

When your inside the car, look in the rear of the seat area towards the floor.) You can see hole marks, if a cage was installed (( patrol car) Don't be fooled by somebody saying it was a " detectives car" yada yada... Those are called SAP " street appearance package" which look like regular vics. It could have been a gangs/unmarked which look like that, they usually have a cage installed.

Would the horn be legal? If you use it in a legal manner, I don't see why not... the law is somewhat vague on what is "unreasonably loud' or "harsh."

Crown Victoria's are good cars, I agree that the last generation was a bit better than the older ones, but never the less they are all pretty darn good.

Better question may have been would you buy this car? For me the answer is no, not because there is anything wrong with the car, I just found them to be a bit lacking in leg room. That being said I have never driven one that didn't have the all of crap we install in them, radio or two, mdc, light control system, and the big azz console to hold it all, plus the cage, and shotgun, carbine rack. It's probably a great car, but at 6' 4" it wasn't the most comfortable car I drove and far from the worst too.

It's probably a great car, but at 6' 4" it wasn't the most comfortable car I drove and far from the worst too.

It has a lot more room without all those extras, there is a huge space between the seats. I need to find a center console for it. I'm 5'8" so I fit in pretty much any car, I used to drive CRXs and they were kind of a tight sqeeeze.

So the horn + animal sounds on the P.A.? That would make for an interesting commute, playing random animal sounds at the light.

Fwiw, if I had some extra $$ lying around and wanted to get a detective looking/possible UC cop car, I'd probably get a 96 Impala SS, have it refurbished, put a new Vette motor in it, etc...

You would have loved driving the small 1984-85 LTD (not the Crown Vic) with the cage. We had some really tall deputies (6'5", 6'7", 6'101/2") and they had to back into the car to get in. Without the cage, we gained some room, but not much.

As others have said, OP, unless you were violating some law, I wouldn't stop you, but then I'm retired.
