It's an 03, its not matte black but I've been considering plasti dipping it to get that matte look.

The price would be free, just trading my labor for it.

I don't act or dress like a cop. It's just a bad *** car, barebones and a v8. Not very many cars get down to the basics like this anymore. Especially in this price range!

As far as the price/trade, I need to do some frame work to trade for the car, if done through a shop its probably about $3-4000 worth of work. But my shop rates are very high, realistically its about a $2000 job.

No materials, no parts simply my time and knowledge to fix a truck frame. The frame rack im using is shop owned but my manager is ok with it. I fix his stuff free all the time!

I plan on doing a few small repairs, putting new tires and doing whatever maintenance hasn't already been done. Maybe change all the fluids to synthetic and then drive the hell out of it! Im looking for winter tires, so if any LEOs who wish to make winter tire suggestions, im all ears!

It would also be nice to get a reply or two about my original questions

What year is it? get a 03+ They have the new intake and rack n' pinion. 05 is the first year they used digital throttle. Honestly can't go wrong with a 04 or 05.

I think 06 is the first year they introduced ballistic lining in the doors. So if you find a 06 you get luckly!
I heard there was a tuner that worked really well on these cars, I had a duramax that responded really well to a tuner. My plans are to put at least 80-100k on it just commuting. So it needs to stay reliable, and run on 87 octance pump gas

I had a white Crown Vic LX with leather seats, premium stereo system. Loads of trunk space, very comfortable, the gas mileage isn't bad for a V8, plenty of power going up hills... I never should have traded it in for the Lincoln Continental I'm driving now.

So am I a douche bag too?

Wait, don't bother answering, I don't really care.

Yeah, giant douche for trading for the Lincoln

The car i'm looking at is a 2003 P71, it has adjustable pedals and the interior is mint! Leather rear seat and cloth fronts, no holes drilled in the dash etc.

I think I'm officially excited about the car now, its great to hear everyone's experiences with these cars.

OMG you got me! I am so guilty over that. Total douche bag.

Well at some point I'll ditch the Lincoln and just get another Crown Vic

AS far as the horn, I don't see a problem as long as it meets the VC requirements.

V C Section 27000 Horns or Warning Devices

27000. (a) A motor vehicle, when operated upon a highway, shall be equipped with a horn in good working order and capable of emitting sound audible under normal conditions from a distance of not less than 200 feet, but no horn shall emit an unreasonably loud or harsh sound. An authorized emergency vehicle may be equipped with, and use in conjunction with the siren on that vehicle, an air horn that emits sounds that do not comply with the requirements of this section.

If the other question was if you would get pulled over, my answer is I don't see why as long as you weren't breaking any traffic laws.

Dude get a 04+, the 03 had problems with the engines. 04's have the better intake system. I guess you could just upgrade the air intake system if you get the 03.

"The 2004–2011 Police Interceptor is rated for 186.5 kW (254 PS; 250 hp) mostly due to the addition of a new better flowing air intake system. This system includes a new airbox that is similar to the Mercury Marauder airbox (raised airbox lid, deeper bottom), with an integrated 80 mm (3.1 in) mass airflow (MAF) sensor that is part of the airbox lid (but can be serviced individually). This allows for much more precise flow calibration and reduces the chances of air leakage. The P71 zip tube (the flexible rubber hose between the throttle body and MAF outlet) is also used to reduce NVH (noise, vibration, and harshness) as well as transfer air from the airbox to the throttle body with minimal flow resistance. From 2005 - on the throttle body is no longer manually operated via cable but an electronic Drive-By-Wire (DBW) set up."

What kind of problems? I can do some mechanical work, but I'm not a mechanic! I don't want to invest in a money pit! It seemed to run very very well.

The downshift from overdrive to 2nd was strong and didn't miss a beat. But 50k isn't very many miles for any car, please tell me what to look for. Thanks

03's are fine. They had some recalls on the steel wheels they used(they'd fracture), the issues with the engines were prob iron out when it was in service. Which was the timing tensioner on the chain would fail prematurely.

                            Read the recalls here

I will look into the tensioner, I would like to catch a problem like that early. Maybe I can swap out some parts from the 04 to the 03.

The intake boot was very straight with no major bends, no silencers built into it and it was NOT quiet. I could hear it sucking air, similar to the sound a cold air intake makes.

Any suggestions for winter tires? I hear a lot of good about the Bridgestone Blizzak tires. I will not be seeing much snow, but there will be lots and lots of rain and some ice in the worst part of winter. I have a 4x4 if I need to make it up to the mountains.

I plan on adding some Xenon (HID) driving lights behind the grille, I have some hidden xenon lights on all my cars. I spend a lot of time driving on back roads and the extra light really helps out.
