How could you put on a uniform and uphold Sacramento's absurd criminal laws is beyond me... I guess if you wanted to " help" people it would be worth it.

Out of curiosity...Say this goes through and LEOs throw up some good defense and it gets defeated. What are the possiblities that it will get the same support the next time when the LEOs are exempted? Where are these "helpful" posts about all those laws LEOs are exempt from?

Not trying to be negative, just a bit more realistic. None of you can deny that thats what will probably happen.

            SB-396 Dead????

I think the point is that CalDOJ has taken an official position that retired LEO's simply cannot be made legally exempt.

It appears that the bill may have died in the Assembly. It got moved to the inactive file and getting it back out today (which is the last day for the Assembly for this year) is very unlikely.

If the FAP and/or Unions were vocal and active this past week in opposition, I offer my sincere thanks!!!!!

Now, let's hope this thing doesn't come back from the dead.

Create strife and discord within the ranks of the sheep and a very small percentage of sheep who are unofficial sheepdogs. Create mistrust and antagonism within the sheep and some of those unofficial sheepdogs towards the full-time sheepdogs. Mix in the facts that the stupid and criminal segments of the sheep are reproducing faster than the decent and produtive segments and, even amongst the supposedly educated percentage of sheep, there are so many who seem willing to cut off noses to spite the faces, and you've got the shepherds and their cronies laughing all the way to the bank.

Let's say there are 100,000 sworn LEOs in CA. Let's say 1/2 are in favor of 2nd amendment stuff and 1/2 aren't (being generous to the number who aren't). All this sour grape griping, finger pointing, *****ing and moaning from all of you anti-LE types over what - MAYBE 50,000 votes, PROBABLY MUCH LESS? Compared to how many total people are voting? Put your efforts in where it's needed the most!

Blame the people making up and changing the rules to the game, not the refs - JHChrist!

                  Hey thanks IA.

Almost forgot - last time I checked, county sheriffs (who are high visibility and approvers/deniers of CCWs) are ELECTED officials, right?

Well, you can "flame" me all you want, since I happen to be a retired LEO (retired in 2002). On the other hand, some of you may "praise" me, for I was definitely pro-2nd Amendment as a police officer, and I still am pro-2nd Amendment. I was NEVER for "special treatment", just because a person happens to be a LEO....and that included CCW permits! A well-armed citizenry is absolutely necessary, and that's why our nation's founders chose to write gun rights in the 2nd Amendment....not the 3rd, 4th or 5th! It follows the very freedom written in the 1st Amendment as our 2nd most important right....and if we lose the 2nd Amendment, we will eventually lose the 1st!

Many years ago, a Sergeant chewed me out for discussing gun rights at a "Neighborhood Watch" meeting. Well, I had to sit down with that Sergeant and have a LONG talk about the erosion of our rights, and that included the line "....shall not be infringed" in the 2nd Amendment. Later on, that same Sergeant approached several of the people that had attended that "Neighborhood Watch" meeting, and they ALL had positive words about how that meeting had been conducted. Looking back on that incident, I can clearly recall how many anti-gun folks were grumbling at the beginning of the meeting....and most of those grumblers had different tunes at the end of the meeting. I know FOR A FACT that I converted at least a few of those anti-gun folks!

Yes, we're all in this together! And....YES, there are more pro-gun police officers than you will ever realize! It's sad that the "brass" of most police agencies have become "politicops"!

Oh please.. Your comment about "police unions" being "against" the people are insulting, and show your ignorance....

It's stupid statements like your which really cause strife between LEO's and non LEO's..

"Police unions" more properly "Associations" have never been "against" the "people"......

Associations exist to benefit the police officer who belong to them. Nothing more and nothing less....

Maybe some biased Calguns members will finally realize that "we" are in this together (and always have been) and stop bashing and insulting officers unnecessarily!!!!

Well put, being a former board member, it was all about wages, benefits and working conditions. There was never an anti agenda against non-leos, if anything we worked hard to show support and bridge any gaps with the community that we found.

^ Yup, this. I'll be gone next spring.
I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!
