Well that is a rookie task, rookie. One of the trainees I terminated, had issues with it.

Amateurs practice until they get it right. Professionals practice until they can't get it wrong.

Rookie? Doubt it. You still work the jails so that says it all or you can't hack it on patrol. Junior member on calguns does not equate to rookie. Sorry.

Question, I went into the chp website and looked at when they are opening up the hiring process. On the website it says they are opening up the 12-14 for cadets. Is that what the chp call their applicants? I know most agencies call their new hires trainees and sheriffs it's deputy trainee.

Just checking I want to apply but dust know if it was for actually being a chp officer or for their explorer program.

Yes. They are called cadets until they graduate. You are at the right spot.

I'm applying. I made a very serious error in judgement last time and ran a full marathon the week before the physical agility test. Hip flexors were annihilated and I failed the situps by 2 reps. Won't happen this time.

Currently have 5 other apps out. One ride-a-long scheduled and my second oral interview is next month. CHP is my number one choice. I loved boot camp and would be thrilled to have the opportunity to go a 6 month live-in academy. Also, the smokey bear covers look a lot more professional than the bus driver caps imo.

I did reasonably well on the PELLETB (just under 70 - I was told by a CHP officer this is a good score?) and was told it would be waived. USMC0621, do you know if this is true? Also, when will the begin scheduling written/physical agility testing? Last time there was a 3 month gap between the initial application and the written test.

I've tried 4 times for CHP...just ain't in God's plan for me I suppose. Good luck to those who make it. It's a LONG journey.

Applied for la area, what about you guys? I wanted to apply for Ventura and sb area but wouldn't let me apply for both

Good luck. My nephew graduated the CHP academy in 2002 and really likes CHP. He is on the Sargent list right now

you can't apply for what area you want to work in. that all gets sorted out at the academy. most people end up going to a metropolitan area like LA. some get lucky and actually go where they want

Applicants generally go to metropolitan areas (LA or Bay Area), or wherever the dept needs officers. Every academy dream sheet is different. There is what is called a "dream sheet" that cadets get in the academy. The dept figures out where they need new officers and they put the list out and you list all spots, starting at #1 that you want to go. Your last 4 of your social security # plays a part, 9999 would be the best to have, 0000 and your are going to do break in, in the South Los Angeles office. Now if you own a home or have kids in school and there is an office within 50 miles that is taking cadets this trumps the SS #. There is more to this and if you get to this point you can look at all the way cadets are prioritized to go to which office. Once you are off of break in you can put in for a transfer (one year as an officer), and you get priority based on badge #, with some exceptions.
