You haven't even started yet. Just wait, it gets a lot more intrusive than just the PHQ.
I am a law enforcement officer in the state of Colorado. Nothing I post is legal advice of any kind.

I agree, the thought of taking a polygraph makes me nervous, but all I can do is be honest. If they want me, then great. If not, then bummer

If you have not already done so, make a copy of your packet and store it away for future reference.

That's a great idea. I will do that this morning. Thank you.

A humbling experience indeed, I'm going to turn my first in today. Definitely keeping a copy as mentioned.

Some guys get bounced because they leave things off the application rather than put it on there and explain it later. Better to be honest.
If you buy anything because it has "tactical" or "operator" in the name, we probably don't run in the same circles.

Especially considering they do a lie detector.

I'll give you my own personal opinion that helped me get picked up..apply where you WANT to work.

I know it's hard. I know how it feels to want to get into LE so bad that you just apply wherever just to get your foot in the door, but every department is different and you will like and dislike some. Apply to the department(s) that YOU want to represent.

There was a point for me that I voluntarily pulled myself out of some hiring processes because deep down I didn't want to work for those departments. I only started applying to departments that I would feel proud of wearing their uniform and it paid off.

When you're in your oral boards and they ask you why you want to work for them, your answer will be more sincere and they'll notice that.

Just my 0.02, worth exactly what you paid for it.

I am going too totally disagree with you on this. The first law enforcement job is the hardest job to get. Every agency is different on standards they are looking for and whom they will give the chance to be a officer and make life and death decisions. In order to extremely up the chances of every being hired 95% of the people need to apply for every agency that is hiring that they qualify for.

Once you get your first law enforcement job and get off probation and have a Basic P.O.S.T. Certificate then if you don't like that agency you can attempt to transfer to a department that you really wanna work for.

2 people applying of for the same job, one a lateral officer and the other a green rookie in most agencies that lateral officer is going to have the much easier time getting hired with a elite agency.

I know a lot of officers that applied everywhere they could, take the first job offered to them and either liked it there and stayed or after a couple of years transfered else where. I also know a few people that only applied at the best agencies or the elite agencies and only applied at a couple and were not willing to apply elsewhere that never made it as cops to this date.

Go where you can get a job and the move to where you wanna be with time

That is not an option at this time. I am the sole provider for my small family.
