Student Loans and a getting hired

Hey guys, I am thinking about taking out some student loans so I can focus on the Police Academy and finishing up my 4 year degree. Will it look bad to have around 10K in student loans when time comes to getting hired. I have excellent credit and plan to make timely payments on the loans. Is there a better option?

My buddies did it using FASA and pel grants. Be advised if you fail the academy you still have to pay it back like a student loan. If you pass... You're golden.

The debt would be for something to better yourself vs having bad debt like maxed out credit cards, toys, etc.... As long as your credit is good, it's perfectly fine. I got hired with 100k in loans between the mortgage, car, and wife's student loans.

          A good approach regardless.

I just got hired with a department and am currently in the academy. I have around $35,000 out in student loans.

As long as you're making payments on time and you have good credit, you should be fine.

Thanks guys for the advice. I'm going to work on the poll grants and scholarships and then go with subsidized and unsubsidized loans after that. Good luck to you all.

$10k is not a lot of student loan debt.

Good to know. So far I've done this debt free, so 10K felt like a lot. Thanks all.

I had more student loan debt when I got hired by my first agency. I'm in a grad program now so if I move agencies again, I'll have a lot more.

As long as you can make your payments, and you have a good reason (school) for te debt, you are going to be ok.

Good, I don't feel worried about this anymore. We've never been late on any payment and don't plan to start. Thanks everybody for assuaging my fears.
