      Nah
I didn't ramble or at least tried bot too, but I tried to elaborate so the panel understood my train of thought. I then wound up cutting my answer short so I didn't ramble and bore them because I sensed it was going that direction.

What are some things some candidates participate in other than reserves and explorers to set themselves apart? I feel I came up short in that area.

I was a fire explorer in highschool but other than the community interaction aspect I don't see how it applies to L.E. so I mentioned nothing of it. I tried to focus more on my current job and the responsibilities it carries in the field and as a supervisor.

Well, I got an e-mail today already that I passed the first and the next panels are coming soon.

Please wish me luck, and thanks for all of the advice in this and other threads.

It says one hour there is a written supplemental exercise and a 25 minute interview. Is it safe to assume I'm going to be writing a statement why I'm qualifed? Or what type of things do they usually ask you to write about?

The topic of a written supplement is usually about nothing relevent. The purpose is to see if you can write.

Half of the trainees who get hired and get washed out is because of poor writing skills. Do not cursive write, print uppercase.

                  Good luck

On top of that, it is likely to be some type of essay that makes you choose. That being said, articulate your position well, and in the oral, they will try to make you flip...don't.

My written was a 20 minute exercise detailing what I did from the time of getting up to the time I stepped into the department for the written exercise. As previously stated, the topic is random and not worth worrying about, the exercise is all about how well you strings words into sentences and sentences into paragraphs.

                        Good luck.

The ones I've been in usually go like this....
                            - tell us about yourself
                            -why this agency
-what will you do for this agency
                            - ethical question
                            - use of force scenario question
                            - do you have any questions for us
"In a society, it is the responsibility of the few strong to protect the many weak"

"Knowledge is a sheild against the unexpected and a solution to the unknown"
