I feel the same way. My RCB sits in my locker but my 29" cocobolo straight baton go's with me everywhere.

I just purchased 5 Koga 29" brown 1-1/8" dymondwood batons for guys on my shift. I prefer the straight wood; my Monadnock Power Safety Tip 26" sucks for just about everything. It has scars from the couple of times I used it to break windows on cars to rescue folks. I will carry a center punch in the future, it works much better.

I've had 2 monadnock autolocks - one from when they first came out and one from about a year ago. The opening/closing/locking mechanisms failed on both of them within a few months. Neither was abused - the second baton had a little bit more mileage on it but it was just from some of my students testing the impacting ability of that baton on some hanging muay thai bags. Although Safariland customer service has been good to me, I wouldn't recommend the monadnock autolocks.

It was a PITA and a half to get. Another PITA to get accessories.

I received mine from Opsgear.com in early January of this year. First, I had to deal with a guy there that said they would not ship to CA. Then after all that, it took months to arrive because it's special order. Last I heard, their relationship with their Bonowi source went away. Just checked and it's gone from their website.

I ordered accessories like retention cap and extended tip direct from the manufacturer in Germany. They were responsive and good to work with. Shipping was expensive, though. They had a booth at Shot Show 2014 in January.

Through emails with the manufacturer rep, they plan to establish a presence in the US. I just did a Google search and National Police Supply in Vista, CA carries Bonowi now. http://www.nationalpolicesupply.com/

I'm 10 years retired now from law enforcement, but back in the "olden days", my less lethal pain compliance tool was the 28" second growth hickory straight stick with a fluted handle. I had an Asp on my belt as required by the Dept. (back-up) plus a baton ring. The stick rode on the door of the Crown Vic. It was always slipped into the ring as I exitted the car.
I wanted suspects to know what they were going to get hit with if it came down to it. I never had faith in the "swizzle stick" (Asp). It just wasn't intimidating, although the young Deputies had no issue with them.
I never hit anyone with an Asp. I have hit numerous suspects over a 32 year career with the straight stick and had excellent results. Especially in the early years of my career before tear gas, pepper spray, and Tasers. There was no "use of force continuum" - it went from baton to handgun. I guess it comes down to using what you have faith in.

I still have that old stick. It's a "war trophy".

Is the holster basketweave and is the baton nickle plated?

The baton is the nickel plated version. However, the holster is the plain swivel type. I'll take 80 for it w/ holster. I carried it for a few months. It's still on good shape
