Peacekeeper RCB baton vs straight stick

So I recently switched from an asp baton to a RCB peacekeeper and have been carrying the peacekeeper baton at work for a few weeks now. The baton is a night and day difference from the asp! I really like the baton however it is heavy! At the end of a shift I am finding that my right hip (which is the side I carry my baton) is hurting. It's not unmanageable pain at all, however it still is uncomfortable. Has anyone had any related issues with the peacekeeper?

Also, Recently I have been tossing around the idea of going to a straight stick diamond wood baton. The weight of the batons seem relatively the same however since it won't always be on my hip (in my vehicle) maybe it will make a difference. Any thoughts?

    Thanks for you replies!

What specifically is hurting? What kind of pain? E.g. Is it your hip bone, is it a spot on your hip where the baton holder or baton was pressing all shift, etc.

What causes the majority of the discomfort/pain? Is it simply standing, is it sitting in the radio car, bending, etc. What happens if/when you move the baton clockwise or counterclockwise a little or if you change the position/angle?

Do you have a policy that requires you to have at least one baton on your person at all times? How will you carry a straight stick when you're out of your vehicle? Where would you keep in inside your vehicle?

    Thanks for you replies!
I prefer a one-piece straight stick. RCB is not bad though and is probably the most rugged expandable out there. I'm waiting to check out a Bonowi/camlock baton too...

It almost feels like its sore... its not pain nessasarily... I guess just soreness or discomfort. I wear my baton on my right hip in a cross draw setup at about 2oclock... Yes I am required to wear a baton whenever I get out of my vehicle...doesn't matter which baton, I just have to carry one. And while in my vehicle, if i caried a striaght stick, It would be sitting out of the ring and I would just ring it whenever I get out.

I have never heard of the bonowi/camlock baton? Do you have a link by any chance.

      Thanks.

I have carried the straight stick 29" dymondwood baton in 1 1/8" diameter for several years and cannot say enough good things about it. It has a long reach and is heavy enough to deliver powerful strikes.

I recommend taking the Koga Institute baton class to learn some of the strikes and deflection techniques that are unique to the 29" baton. The next class the Koga Institute is having is in June at the Ben Clark Training Center in Riverside. Here is link to the calender and you can also purchase the baton from the website:

As to the soreness, I use to get those after I came back from vacations. usually went away after the first week. Well first day if you have 3 day weekends too.

As to the wood, I've only ever used the straight stick. It served me well enough.

I loved the straight 26 ash myself, but I recently went to the RCB. Here's why. You bail out of the car, foot pursuit. Guy turns corner, pulls a knife. You plug him and he dies. Or he doesn't and naturally sues the mean po leece for shooting him. You're gonna get grilled by MCD/IA, whatever citizen review board, maybe a grand jury, and John Burris when the family hires him. And while it may be totally clean, if you forgot that 26 inch baton in the car jammed in the seat, someone who thinks unfavorably is going to hang and dig in that one point, that you didn't have all your force options available and so you forced yourself to shoot him. We already get sued for everything (hell I've got 3 lawsuits in 5 years), I don't want to give them any more legs to stand on.

Think of the discomfort as a reminder, you've got the meanest mother f'ing baton out there. Shatters bone in one hit. Makes your man bits move when it locks out. And you are going to use it if someone makes you. And you are going to win that fight, not just win but devastatingly win.

Yeah, I don't know what's worse, being sore, feeling a little "off", or having to deal with the shrunken uniforms from those elusive locker gnomes...

On top of this, if you carry your straight stick ringed on your belt like I did it sucks during foot pursuits. They either fly right out of the ring or it bounces around so much it manages to jam itself between your legs as you're running causing you to trip and face plant. Ask me how i know. Carry the expandable. Your body will adapt.

For me, the Monadnock Autolock Expandable Baton is such a good piece of equipment that I wouldn't have any interest in using anything else. I don't like the ASP and having to bang it into the ground to close it.

I carry the RCB. Amazing baton. My only gripe is it doesnt stick into its holster well and sometimes falls out for no apparent reason. I wish I bought the longest one and not the 26incher.

I wear mine in the same exact position. It used to dig on my right hip (more of the holster issue than the baton) because of how I had my duty belt set up. Moved it about a quarter inch towards my gig line and now that it is off my hip bone....no more problem.

RCB is one heck of an awesome baton. Devastating is an understatement.

I carry the same, as feel exactly the same MEB's and the ASP. The only drawback with the Monadnock is the rattle feeling but i think thats just a personal pet peeve of mine.

I've never used the RCB. Is it basically as asp on steroids? The 5 or 15 times I used my asp, it felt like a car antenna on steroids. I take it the RCB IS just that much better?

To Sam, the locker gnomes. Those buggers made me buy some new uniforms on some occasions everything else I could live with.
