    New Ford Interceptor

Just wanted to see if any other departments had ordered any of the new Ford Interceptors. My department ordered 100 and we received the first 20. I had a chance to play with one and it is a really nice vehicle. It is really roomy in front and the back, although the one I played with did not have Cage yet. It has pretty good acceleration as well. I just wonder how that turbo is going to hold up. Comes standard with armor in the doors and has plenty of room in the center console area. I was wondering what your first impressions are about this new vehicle. Stay safe out there.

I have only seen 1 turbo failure under normal use, don't expect to see too many even under L.E. use. All of the interior was designed for L.E. Including the center console area so exsisting equipment in the CVPI will switch over.

I asked our fleet department why we weren't staying with the Ford...I was told we won't be going with the new Interceptor because its AWD and ALL of our sworn staff would have to go through EVOC again.

      So....hello Caprice.

Looks like it will be the same for my old dept.

Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to drive it on a course. An Lt. showed up at my office with it, so I asked him if I could try it out. Its a public street so I just tried acceleration and that's about it. Hopefully later I get a chance to put one through a course. I liked it so far, I'm a big guy and I felt real comfortable behind the wheel.

It's up for debate right now... but the proposal was already made for some of the turbo AWD's which created some heated discussion.

LtMike70 thanks for the reply, I'm sure it will drive as though it was on rails !!

We've had one of the Explorers for a while with more on order. The decision was made to go with the Explorer frame over the Tarus because there were complaints that the front was too cramped in the Tarus after the equipment was installed.

Sac Sheriff is putting some Ford Interceptor SUVs out (SWAT), and still deciding wether patrol will be SUV or sedan. I don't think the first one has cleared upfit yet though.

I can't see a turbocharger standing up to the abuse of patrol. My experience with turbos on cars and airplanes has taught me they are very maintenance intensive and not that reliable.

Ernie, did you ever think you would ever be able to make that statement.

                        How does it feel.

CHP ordered 400 Ford Explorers for patrol a few months ago.

                            *Not a LEO* but...
We ordered two at my work. The non turbo version in AWD. We should have them next month to replace our dying SUV's.

Done well there should be no reliability issues. Look at diesels for evidence.
