Cops with prior drug use?

I heard stories of guys, who are now police officers who used drugs in the past. I know there is a polygraph test, and a test for the use of controlled substances. Is this true you can still get hired even though you have used drugs before? Since Falconis has posted a sticky about this subject at the top of the forum as he mentions in this thread, it will be locked. Refer to his sticky.

High school years
College years

Referring to Marijuana, not the cocaine and PCP type zombie stuff.

Because I heard some departments want the applicant to have a certain amount of years clean.

Most Gov. agencies require 7 years between last use...

Most agencies will also look into how much "experimenting" the applicant did. If the applicant used for years on end, this would not typicly be considered "experimenting". Not sure about non Gov. agencies, but I would assume that most wont consider applicants with a long history of drug use...

I can't believe that 'experiencing' all illegal drugs first hand (as well as observing fellow trainees on drugs) isn't part of the training.

In my academy orientation, he said "the longer, the better". He said years would be best. And like what fortified said, you don't experiment illegal drugs for a couple months. LOL

Ohhh. And selling drugs is a big time no no; even if you weren't convicted, it might turn up in the background check or through your so called references.

You get enough morons out there that will use illegal drugs to view the symptoms first hand without having to subject trainees to substances that can kill you, or screw you up for life.

I heard a story that one of the detectives thought you had to have sex with the prostitute in order for it to be prostitution LMAO
