At work, I carry 3 lights on my person. Streamlight SL-20L as primary. Great impact weapon and excellent light output. Streamlight Strion LED on belt as back up, more great light output. Surefire X300 on my Springfield Operator.

The 2 Streamlights have 3 levels of brightness to help conserve battery life and a strobe mode. Great for getting someone's attention if you don't give them a seizure with it.

I chose the Strion LED over the Stinger LED due to its size. The LED Stinger looks about an inch longer then the old incandescent Stinger.

I use three lights on patrol as well. The Streamlight SL-20X, a sturdy and reliable light.

On my belt I have an Olight M-20. A fantastic sturdy little light, very bright. I've dropped it, dunked it, and subjected it to the daily abuse of patrol for 2+ years with no issues. Plus it uses rechargable 18650 batteries ($10), or two CR123s. Whats not to love?

Lastly, my Streamlight TLR-1S. Great light too.

In the jails here in Santa Cruz County, we use the Streamlight LED's. They are really bright and like mentioned earlier, backed by a lifetime warranty. The strobe setting on them works wonders when someone is combative and/or advancing on you.

I carried an SL-20 from 1979-2011, when I retired. During that time I went thru 4 batteries, 5 bulbs and one switch. At one point I had two of them because I was working a very isolated area. I lost my original one about six years ago, but my other one that I bought in 1982 is still going strong. When the Stinger first came out, I got one of those to keep on my belt as a backup.

The SL-20 also makes a great impact weapon when needed. More than one way to make a dirtbag see the light.

Great flashlights in my opinion.

I carried my SL-20 beginning the second year it came out (1978-1979?) and carried it until my retirement in 2003. When it first came out, I kidded my fellow deputies for spending $80 on a flashlight. Well, when I finally decided to buy one the next year, I certainly showed them by having to pay $85 for the same thing.

I went thru 2 switches (there were problems with the original slide switch), but can't recall how many batteries or bulbs. I still use it around the home and for the 11 years we had a motorhome, I always had it with us.

I will admit it doesn't have as much of the original black coloring, but that was a result of removing hanging glass on broken windows at a burglary locations, not for use as an impact weapon, tho I knew it would work in that capacity if needed.

I do wish I had bought the Surfire Stinger when it was available to us for $50, but I figured, why, since I had a light. I regret that decision.

Been using a Pelican 7060LED in my federal detention center. Its bright as hell has two switchs comes with recharger and holster in choice of basket weave or nylon. And has a lifetime warrenty.... which for some reason doesnt cover bear or children under 5. I swear thats what the warrenty says lol.

Also the way its designed when set on the hood of the car it will not roll off.

When I was on patrol, I carried an ultra stinger as my main light, regular stinger on my belt, and a surefire 6p as a backup. That is apart from the battery lights in my bags as extra backups. I had planned on Terralux'ing everything but was pulled into desk duty. I still was considering upgrading the 6p to an LED until I was introduced to the Fenix line. Now, I use those almost exclusively. That said, if I were to go back out to patrol, the new surefire 600 lumen compact looks like a great belt flashlight. Not sure about a large light, but anything beats the 80-120 lumen lights that were the norm 15-20 years ago.

SL20X in a bag, rarely gets used. StingerXT w/ LED upgrade is what I use 99.9% of the time. Sits on the belt 100% of the time. TLR-1 on the duty weapon, used when appropriate.
