Okay fellow Calgunners, I always turn to your expertise in duty gear. I gotta replace my light. Sucks, been with me since the academy, but I confronted an "individual" last night night and my light just didn't have the effect I wanted it to. What are you guys carrying out there that I should be looking at?

Streamlight Strion LED. It's light weight, bright, multiple settings plus strobe, rechargeable, and backed by a lifetime warranty.

all the time. I use a SL20 as primary and a Fenix (2 x 123a) back up. SL20 carries a whallop.

"confronted" and "just didn't have the effect I wanted it to" are WAY too ambiguous. What do you mean exactly?

Lots of different lights are designed for lots of different reasons. What are you allowed to carry per policy? What do you plan on doing with it? How are you planning on carrying it? What features do you want/require/need? ETC.

I carried an SL-20 from 1979-2011, when I retired. During that time I went thru 4 batteries, 5 bulbs and one switch. At one point I had two of them because I was working a very isolated area. I lost my original one about six years ago, but my other one that I bought in 1982 is still going strong. When the Stinger first came out, I got one of those to keep on my belt as a backup.

The SL-20 also makes a great impact weapon when needed. More than one way to make a dirtbag see the light.

Great flashlights in my opinion.

I use a surefire g2...small, lightweight and bright. I'm on my feet for 16 hours sometimes, try to keep my belt light where I can.

Use to carry the streamlight LED, small one. Forgot the model number. But I worked an urban area. I also usually had 2 to 3 impact weapons on me too.

SL20 is awesome though.

Primary-MagCharger w/I believe 800 lumen Terralux conversion bulbs. Can't go wrong with a good maglight. Good size, lumens, and weight to help the "individuals" become enlightened.

Secondary on belt-Streamlight 88040, 600 lumens for $70.00. Put a few hundred rounds through my A.R. with it mounted to the rifle and it is uneffected by the shock and/or recoil, a good and tough light that fits in a Surefire speed holster. Runs on CR123's $24 for 12 good Surefire batteries, will last you quite a while.

I run a Dereelight when I am in uniform. Will alternate to a Sf Z2 or E2D once in awhile but the Deree is stout, takes rechargeable 18650 and have served me well since I got it 4 years ago.

For plainclothes I am still searching, just got a 5.11 A1 that runs on AA. I am waiting on SF to release the V1 which will allow me to have an IR and visible light in a small package that can be slipped into a pocket. until than the 5.11 A1 is doing nicely.

I run a SF X300 on my weapon, a SF P6 LED on my belt, and a Pelican 6070 as my primary light. I just want to make sure that I have all my Lights covered. I'm thinking about purchasing a Streamlight SL model LED. I carry a inexpensive spare Fenix Tk something as back up incase another deputy may have forgotten his light if we have to do a search. You can't have enough light!
